  • Patent number: 7201742
Abstract: A needle assembly includes an elongate needle mount (10), a needle (12), and a sheath (14) mounted on the elongate needle mount (10) for reciprocal axial movement between a forward position whereat the sheath (14) covers the needle (12) and a rearward position whereat the needle (12) is exposed.

  • Patent number: 6997901
Abstract: A single use syringe (10) includes a needle (18), barrel (16), plunger assembly (20) and shield (12). The barrel (16) bears a locking member (26) which encircles the front end of the barrel (16) and is carried forward by the barrel (16) to a position where it engages the shield (12) and is retained by the shield (12) such that the locking member (26) is separated from the barrel (16) as the barrel (16) is withdrawn rearwardly after use. The locking member (26) is resilient and, after it is removed from the barrel (16), assumes a configuration which prevents subsequent forward movement of the barrel (16) within the shield (12). The barrel includes a frangible seal (30) which is broken by rearward movement of needle mount (32). The shield (12) includes a shield extender (14) for controlling the depth of penetration of the needle. The syringe can also be used to inject medicament into a IV bag via a male port as shown in FIG. 7.

  • Publication number: 20040267210
Abstract: A needle assembly includes an elongate square cross-sectioned needle mount (10), a needle (12), and a sheath (14) mounted on the needle mount (10) for reciprocal axial movement between a forward position whereat the sheath (14) covers the needle (12) and a rearward position whereat the needle (12) is exposed. The sheath (14) is bifurcated at its rearward end to define opposed resilient members (30) which engage a portion (18) situated rearwardly of first ramps (24) when the sheath (14) is in a rearward injecting position. Subsequent to injection occurring, the sheath (14) is axially rotated through 90 degrees relative to the needle mount (10) to disengage the resilient members (30) from the ramps (24). The sheath (14) then automatically slides under the action of a compression spring to the forward position so that the resilient members (30) lockingly engage second ramps (26), rendering the needle (12) safe.

  • Publication number: 20040236281
Abstract: A single-use syringe includes a shield (2), a barrel (1) mounted for axial movement within the shield and being biased to a rearward position by resilient biasing means (10), and a plunger assembly (3) mounted for axial movement within the barrel. A resilient locking member (6) initially prevents the barrel from moving rearwardly. When fluid is expressed from the barrel, the barrel moves forward thereby disabling rearward movement prevention means (15) and enabling forward movement prevention means (14) such that the barrel can move rearwardly and is locked in the rearward position to prevent repeated use.
