    Abstract: A deicing composition is provided which comprises a solid mixture of sodium chloride and a corrosion inhibitor comprising a water-soluble divalent metal ion and an alkali metal polyphosphate selected from the group consisting of tripolyphosphate, pyrophosphate, hexametaphosphate and mixtures thereof, wherein the inhibitor is present in an amount effective to reduce the rate of corrosion of ferrous metals by aqueous sodium chloride solutions.
