  • Patent number: 5874897
Abstract: A personal emergency-reporting system for recognizing the site of an emergency with simultaneous warning of the nearest emergency physician/medical personnel. A portable patient data unit is provided which contains a satellite-supported global positioning system, which communicates with a patient data acquisition and evaluation unit via a computer and control unit, wherein the latter is connected to an emergency call transmitter. The transmitter sends patient data and the patient's position to an emergency call receiver in the case of an emergency. An automatic emergency-reporting system is provided by the present invention in order to make possible a rapid and specific rescue operation to a person whose health is acutely at risk.

  • Patent number: 5687718
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for continuing detecting blood parameters. The device includes a catheter adapted to be introduced into the artery of a patient. A sensor is arranged in the catheter. A tube us adapted to be coupled to a vein of a patient and is also connected to the first catheter. A device controllably maintains blood flow across the sensor, the device being controlled such that initially the flow of blood to the first catheter via the tube is prevented so long as the detective blood parameters indicated a sufficient amount of fresh arterial blood is flowing around the sensor. In the event that a detective blood parameters indicate that an insufficient amount of blood flows around the sensor, then blood flow through the first catheter to the vein of the patient via the tube is then established.

  • Patent number: 4456833
Abstract: A linear regulated D.C. power supply includes two control elements for regulating two separate unregulated D.C. voltage sources. An enabling means is used to enable the one of the two control elements which is operating at the lower instantaneous power dissipation level and to supply the regulated output of that selected control element to a load.

  • Patent number: 4449537
Abstract: A respiration monitor for detecting effective respiration of a patient includes circuitry for suppressing the indication of unwanted signals due to heart activity, noise and flat breathing. A first threshold circuit is provided for increasing the sensitivity of the respiration monitor in response to a decreasing amplitude of the measured respiration signals. A first comparator circuit provides a fixed amplitude threshold below which detected signals are fully neglected. A second threshold circuit provides an adjustable amplitude threshold for the measured respiration signal, which threshold is raised in response to a decreasing respiration frequency below a predetermined frequency limit. Effective respiration is indicated only if all the aforementioned amplitude thresholds are exceeded.
