  • Patent number: 6116623
Abstract: A hand cart for transporting two cylinders, one with oxygen and the other with a liquified fuel gas, used in welding or metal cutting is provided with a firewall divider between the cylinders to protect the oxygen cylinders from a risk of rising cylinder pressure due to heat comprising a flue supported above the cart platform in order to allow cool air to be drawn in at the bottom as how air rises should leaking fuel on the gas side become ignited.

  • Patent number: 5445399
Abstract: A positive locking arrangement for a retractable leg of a collapsible hand truck. A slide connected to the hand truck front axle is retained within a slot formed in a tab connected to the retractable leg. The slide includes a projection interlocking the tab thereto. To disengage the locked members, the retractable leg must be swung backwardly in a first motion, thus aligning the slot with the projection. In a second motion, the slide is then raised, the projection just passing through the slot, and the slide continues to feed through the tab, coming to a final vertical position parallel to and against the hand truck body. The slide terminates at an angle, thus cooperating with the tab so as to be urged by gravity to a lowermost position, thus favoring engagement. The tab is inclined to extend upwardly from its anchoring point, thus limiting downward movement of the slide. A removable pin or hook is inserted into the slot when it is desired to secure the slide in the deployed, locked condition.

  • Patent number: 5261559
Abstract: A ring assembly for compressed gas cylinders includes either a separate adaptor removably attachable to existing gas cylinders or, a ring member integral with the top portion of manufactured cylinders. In any case, a ring plate provides a horizontal, radially disposed lift plate that serves to allow lifting, transporting and storage of the cylinders. In the adaptor version, the ring plate surrounds a collar having upper and lower portions respectively provided with external and internal threads. The lower portion threads engage with the existing external threads on the top portion of gas cylinders and which normally provide for attachment of the required safety cap while the upper portion threads duplicate the cylinder threads and thus enable attachment of the protector cap thereto. Manipulation or hanging of a cylinder equipped with the ring adaptor may be by manual grasping of the ring plate or by insertion of lift hooks into holes formed in the ring plate or by placing lift forks beneath the plate.

  • Patent number: 5180179
Abstract: A removable handle for gas cylinder hand trucks allows storage of the truck in a smaller space by decreasing the height of the truck. The invention is for trucks of the type having a tubular handle extending upward from the frame. The joint (or joints) where the handle removes is formed by making a cut in the tube, preferably just above the level of the top of the frame. This cut becomes a joint by adding to the cut a dowel and a bracket. The dowel is permanently fastened into the handle part of the tube, and snugly fits into the lower, or frame, end of the tube. The dowel both aligns and angularly braces the two tube sections. The bracket part consists of two plates, one fastened to the removable handle part and one fastened to the frame, which are bolted together when the joint is fastened. The plates are radially attached to adjoining parts of the handle tube and frame tube. Each plate has a hole for the bolt. The bolted plates prevent relative twisting of the two tubes and also reinforce the dowel.

  • Patent number: 5145311
Abstract: A lift for raising and lowering large cylindrical tanks, which when filled with a fluid such as liquid nitrogen are very heavy, is provided with a base consisting of two parallel beams, each with a wheel at each end and a cross beam closer to one pair of wheels than the other to leave a U-shaped part of the base that may be positioned around a tank. An upright telescoping beam has a horizontal rod at its upper end that engages an eye on a strap welded to the tank. When the upright telescoping beam is extended by a jack having one end on a seat secured to a hollow beam and the other end secured to the telescoping beam, the cylinder is raised in a nearly vertical position. Side struts aid in supporting the upright hollow beam, and each side strut supports a bumper rod that prevents the tank from dragging on the upright hollow beam. Pulleys with V-belts are positioned on the bumper rods to prevent the tank from dragging on the bumper rods.

  • Patent number: 5071148
Abstract: A gas cylinder cart having an integrally mounted guard device for protecting a regulator connectable with a gas cylinder when the gas cylinder is mounted on the cart. The arrangement allows handling of the gas cylinder when disconnected from the cart without damage to the regulator which remains mounted on the cart. In a second embodiment, a protective bar extends from the guard device to surround the gas cylinder including a block valve and a yoke assembly mounted on the cylinder to protect these elements from impact forces. In a third embodiment the regulator is mounted directly on the gas cylinder with the guard mounted on the cart in a manner to protect the cylinder and regulator from impact forces. In the first two embodiments the guard is located on the rear of a cart handle while in the third embodiment the guard is located on the front of the cart handle.
