  • Patent number: 8918108
Abstract: Systems and methods for frequency reuse in a multi-cell deployment model of a wireless backhaul network are shown. According to embodiments, a wireless backhaul network includes a plurality of cells, each of which includes one or more hubs supporting wireless backhaul communication utilizing a cell deployment geometry and wireless communication frequency assignments adapted to facilitate heterogeneous cell configurations within the wireless backhaul network. In particular, embodiments provide frequency planning for initial deployment, build out, and expansion of a plurality of cells providing wireless backhaul communication so as to implement a predetermined wireless frequency reuse pattern providing alternating utilization of a plurality of wireless communication frequencies by the cells of the backhaul network.

  • Patent number: 8824586
Abstract: Performance in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna systems may be enhanced by configuring beams in a direction that reduces coupling between the beams. A decoupling metric may be calculated based on signal strengths received through the beams when an antenna system is pointed in different directions. The decoupling metric may be used to select a particular direction for operation of the antenna system. The decoupling metric may be combined with the signal strengths from each beam to select a direction for the antenna. An interface provides information to a user during positioning of the antenna to allow the user to select a direction for placement of the antenna that reduces coupling between beams in the MIMO antenna system.

  • Patent number: 8326307
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for a multi-cell deployment model of a wireless backhaul network that implements frequency reuse. The backhaul network includes a plurality of cells, each of which includes a center hub supporting wireless backhaul communication over four geographic sectors. A first tier of the plurality of cells includes a center cell configured to support a first alternating frequency reuse pattern of a first channel and a second channel over four corresponding geographic sectors. A second tier of the plurality of cells surrounds the first tier. The second tier includes a first cell configured to support the first alternating reuse pattern over four corresponding geographic sectors, and wherein the first cell is horizontally adjacent to the center cell.

  • Patent number: 7170943
Abstract: A user control channel for a wireless digital subscriber line systems and the like, or other communications systems which can benefit from a control channel which provides a low data rate connection between stations on an ongoing basis, makes efficient use of transmission capacity in the communications systems. In one embodiment, the user control channel has a structure employing slotted frames, and a user can be assigned multiple slots, a single slot or less than a single slot (sharing slots with other users) to meet the data transmission needs of the user. Also, one or more slots can be designated as random access slots which users can access via an Aloha-like or other random access protocol as needed.

  • Publication number: 20060176839
Abstract: A communication structure and method which allows connection-like and connectionless communications to be provided on a multiplexed link is provided. The structure and method can make efficient use of available transmission capacity and/or network resources while providing for both types of communication. Connection-like communications can be provided by a channel having allocated bandwidth dedicated to the communication while connectionless communication can be provided by a shared channel through which data can be transmitted to subscribers. In an embodiment, the shared channel transmits frames of packets addressed to one or more of the subscribers. The frames can have a robustly packaged header that can be received by all subscriber stations serviced by the base station while payload data in the frame can be packaged with a level of robustness appropriate for the intended subscriber station. Different packagings can include different encoding and/or modulation of the payload data.

  • Patent number: 6765883
Abstract: A novel power control system and method for CDMA telecommunications systems allows the rate of power control updates to be changed, adaptively, as needed on an on going basis. Up to date power control information is available, via a user control channel, to also establish a dedicated channel between stations in an efficient manner. In one embodiment, a pre-selected number of SNR levels, reported by a subscriber station to a base station, are considered and if the variation in these levels is less than a pre-selected lower amount, the rate at which power control information (including the reported SNR levels) is reduced. If the variation is greater than a pre-selected upper amount, the power control rate can be increased.
