  • Patent number: 4375941
Abstract: A pump and method for moving a fluid, as blood, having a body and end members forming a cylindrical chamber. A free floating piston located in the chamber is moved along the length of the chamber with a solenoid to pump blood into and out of opposite ends of the chamber. The end members containing inlet and outlet valves and sleeves are adapted to attach to veins or tubes to carry the blood to and from the pump. When electrical power is applied to the solenoid, a magnetic force operates to move the piston in the chamber, thereby pumping blood into and out of the chamber through the valves in the opposite end members.

  • Patent number: 4252525
Abstract: A tooth prothesis located in a mandible tooth socket having a root supporting a crown. The root has a cone-shaped head located in a recess in the bottom of the crown and a stem extended into the socket. An elastic body of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer surrounds and is bonded to the stem. The outer surface of the elastic body is bonded to the inside surface of a porous fabric which permits bone ingrowth to anchor the prothesis to the mandible. The fabric has a Pyrolite carbon outer skin. The upper edge of the fabric is spaced from the crown and head whereby the elastic body allows limited movement of the crown relative to the fabric. A plurality of bands of silver surround the body adjacent the lower edge of the crown. Ionic silver is released from the bands, which provides anti-bacterial action. In one form, a silver wire contained in the root and connected to a band and a source of direct current releases ionic silver into the surrounding tissue.

  • Patent number: 4210409
Abstract: A pump for moving fluid, as blood, having a cylindrical body defining a chamber. A piston movably located in the chamber carries a one-way valve movable to an open position to allow fluid to flow into the chamber and movable to a closed position to pump fluid from the chamber. One or more solenoids operate to reciprocate the piston in the chamber to pump fluid from the chamber. A one-way valve in an inlet passage to the chamber functions to allow the flow of fluid into the chamber and restrict reverse flow of the fluid out of the chamber through the inlet passage.
