  • Patent number: 6483472
Abstract: An antenna system suitable for use in communicating with satellites has multiple antenna units adjacent to each other and oriented in the same direction. These antenna units are driven together in tandem in altitude and azimuth by a common drive unit. The signals received by the antenna are combined together in an in phase relationship in a combiner unit to provide received signals which reinforce each other.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 11, 2001
Date of Patent: November 19, 2002
    Assignee: Datron/Transo, Inc.
Inventors: Frank W. Cipolla, John Sclimenti, John DiGioia

  • Patent number: 6087997
Abstract: An antenna dish for reflecting signals for a first antenna operating in a first frequency band is mounted in proximity to a second antenna operating in a second frequency band separated from the first band. With the two antennas in certain relative orientations, the dish is partially or totally in the receiving and transmitting path of the second antenna. The dish is modified so that signals in the first frequency band can effectively pass through the dish. This end result is achieved by placing conductive antenna elements over the entire reflecting surface, these elements being dimensioned to efficiently radiate and receive signals in the first frequency band, thereby permitting such signals to effectively pass through the reflector dish.

  • Patent number: 6046655
Abstract: An antenna feed system provides reception of both circularly polarized signals and linearly polarized signals. An antenna is employed which is dual-circularly polarized and circularly polarized signals received thereby are separated into right and left hand components which are placed in phase quadrature relationship by means of a 90 degree hybrid coupler. Signals received by the antenna which have dual-orthogonal linear polarization are also separated into left and right hand components in quadrature relationship by means of a 90 degree hybrid coupler. A programmable phase shifter is utilized to set the orientation of the linearly polarized reception vector. A fixed delay line and an attenuator are provided for use in balancing the amplitude and phase of the right and left hand components of the linearly polarized signals.
