  • Patent number: 4769050
Abstract: A liquid separator assembly for separating a liquid from a liquid-entrained vapor is provided. The separator assembly includes a housing having an interior wall that is configured to define a containment chamber. A downstream pipe is provided that is coupled to the housing and is in fluid communication with the containment chamber to discharge vapor from the housing. An upstream pipe is provided that is coupled to the housing and is in fluid communication with the containment chamber to introduce the liquid-entrained vapor into the housing. The upstream pipe is formed to include an expansion mechanism in the containment chamber for expanding and cooling the liquid-entrained vapor discharged in the containment chamber to induce condensation of the liquid entrained in the vapor onto the interior wall of the housing. A liquid return conduit is provided for conducting condensed liquid collecting in the containment chamber to a point of use.

  • Patent number: 4536371
Abstract: A catalytic converter includes a longitudinally disposed body portion having first and second shell halves and an interior in which first and second catalytic substrates are disposed. A divider is positioned between the first and second catalytic substrates and is selectively attachable to accommodate substrates of various relative sizes. The divider includes first and second divider halves, with each divider half having a pair of flanges which extend perimetrically and substantially completely along the interior wall of one shell half. The portion of the interior wall of each shell to which the divider flanges are attached has a greater longitudinal extent than the longitudinal extent of the pair of divider flanges to allow selective placement of the dividers in the converter body portion. The divider flanges are disposed substantially parallel to the interior wall and are coupled thereto. The divider flanges include a portion which is recessed inwardly from the interior wall.

  • Patent number: 4501118
Abstract: A catalytic converter includes a longitudinally disposed body portion having first and second shell halves and an interior through which the combustion product can flow. A manifold is provided for forming a passageway between the body interior containing a reducing catalyst and the body interior containing an oxidizing catalyst. The manifold includes first and second manifold halves, with each manifold half including a pair of flanges which extend perimetrally and substantially completely along the interior wall of one shell half. The manifold flanges are disposed substantially parallel to the interior wall and coupled thereto. The manifold flanges include a portion which is recessed inwardly from the interior wall and first and second mating sections. The recessed portions include air holes for introducing air into the passageway between the reducing catalyst and the oxidizing catalyst.
