  • Publication number: 20040253367
Abstract: Sensors for the electro-chemical analysis of samples and methods for the manufacturing of sensors allow for more efficient manufacture and use of electro-chemical sensors. Flexible sheets, such as polycarbonate sheets, are used to easily manufacture sensor components, with sensor chemistry being applied to the sensor components at manufacture. Sensors may be manufactured with modular components, enabling easy production-line manufacture and construction of electro-chemical sensors with significant cost savings and increased efficiency over existing sensor styles and sensor manufacturing techniques.

  • Publication number: 20040254079
Abstract: An aqueous oilfield treatment fluid containing a chelating agent and an HF source is described. This fluid is effective at dissolving siliceous materials such as clays and keeping the dissolved materials in solution. In particular it is effective at preventing re-precipitation of initially-dissolved silicon as silica and therefore reduces damage to sandstones with which it is contacted. Methods are given for using this fluid for sandstone matrix stimulation, removal of clay-containing drilling fluid components and filter cakes from wellbores, sandstone acid fracturing, and gravel pack and proppant pack cleaning.

  • Publication number: 20040250514
Abstract: A novel method and apparatus of detecting unique items as they are inserted into a product packaging system that is easily adaptable to current product packaging and prize insertion systems. A number of different types of sensors may be used in conjunction with the insertion device to detect the unique prize before it is inserted into a product packaging system. The sensor used will vary depending on the particular application. Sensors that may be used include a capacitive proximity sensor, a thickness sensor, a reflectivity sensor, a transmissivity sensor, a stiffness sensor, a color sensor, or even an odor or chemical sensor. Ideally, the type sensor used will detect a feature of the unique item that is easily distinguishable from other items being inserted. Once the sensor detects the prize and generates a signal, this signal can be used to perform a variety of useful functions.

  • Publication number: 20040252821
Abstract: A designated service provider of a customer having slamming protection on their account may not be changed without authorization from the customer to remove the slamming protection. When a customer's telephone company receives a request to change the customer's long distance provider and subsequently determines that the customer has slamming protection on their account, the telephone company notifies the requester that the requested change may not be provisioned due to the slamming protection. The customer's authorization to remove the slamming protection is provided by the requester in the form of an audio file that is reviewed by the telephone company. If the telephone company or an agent of the telephone company listens to the audio file and approves the request, then the customer's slamming protection is removed.

  • Publication number: 20040251323
Abstract: A showerhead as described herein includes a translucent hollow body having a fluid chamber, and a fluid distribution element configured to release fluid contained in the fluid chamber. The fluid distribution element includes a plurality of raised concentric rings having peaks that serve as the fluid release points. The fluid distribution element contains a number of fluid ducts that are specifically shaped to transport the fluid from the fluid chamber toward the fluid release points. The translucent nature of the showerhead creates an optical lens effect that illuminates the showerhead and the water droplets formed by the showerhead. The illumination of the water droplets creates a pleasant showering experience for the user.

  • Publication number: 20040251542
Abstract: A metal runner that improves the current-carrying capability of solder bumps used to electrically connect a surface-mount circuit device to a substrate. The runner comprises at least one leg portion and a pad portion, with the pad portion having a continuous region and a plurality of separate electrical paths leading to and from the continuous region. The electrical paths are delineated in the pad portion by nonconductive regions defined in the pad portion, with at least some of the nonconductive regions extending into the leg portion. The multiple electrical paths split the current flow to and from the solder bump, distributing the current around the perimeter of the solder bump in a manner that reduces current density in regions of the solder bump where electromigration is most likely.

  • Publication number: 20040250572
Abstract: A method for producing a quartz glass material with high resistance to radiation-induced density modifications when exposed to ultraviolet radiation at about 193 nm and energy densities of the order of the working energy densities of optical systems for microlithography, in which the peroxy defect level in the quartz glass material is minimized. In this way the creation of closely neighbored hydroxyl groups can be inhibited, which have been identified as an essential cause for radiation induced density reduction of the quartz glass material.

  • Publication number: 20040252648
Abstract: A network interface is presented that receives packet data from a shared medium and accomplishes the signal processing required to convert the data packet to host computer formatted data separately from receiving the data packet. The network interface receives the data packet, converts the analog signal to a digitized signal, and stores the resulting sample packet in a storage queue. An off-line processor, which may be the host computer itself, performs the signal processing required to interpret the sample packet. In transmission, the off-line process converts host-formatted data to a digitized version of a transmission data packet and stores that in a transmission queue. A transmitter converts the transmission data packet format and transmits the data to the shared medium.
