  • Patent number: 8087685
Abstract: The invention relates to a securing device for head tube bearings of two-wheel vehicles, e.g. bicycles. The head tube bearing comprises a top and a bottom bearing unit, with the aid of which a tubular shaft of the fork of the two-wheel vehicle can be rotatably connected to a head tube of the frame of the two-wheel vehicle. The inventive securing device is composed of a thrust bearing which can be locked onto the tubular shaft above the top bearing unit and is effectively connected to a mechanism applying an axial pressure to the top bearing unit, henceforth referred to as an axial pressure mechanism. This has the advantage that securing the clearance of the head tube bearing is entirely independent of the handlebar fixture. The thrust bearing is locked in relation to the tubular shaft once the disclosed thrust bearing comprising the axial pressure mechanism has been placed on the tubular shaft and has been slid onto the top bearing unit until reaching the stop.

  • Patent number: 6623477
Abstract: A medical instrument for phacoemulsification with which the biological tissue of a lens of the eye is comminuted by the introduction of energy, the comminuted product is sucked out through an incision in the cornea, while intraocular pressure is maintained by supplying an irrigating liquid. In an instrument of the type mentioned above, two cannulas are provided for sucking out the ablated lens material and for supplying the irrigating liquid and are connected, via feed lines, with the suction device and with the supply device. A switchable directional valve is provided in the feed lines between the cannulas and the suction device and supply device, by means of which, in a first valve position, a first cannula is connected with the suction device and the second cannula is connected with the supply device and, in a second valve position, the second cannula is connected with the suction device and the first cannula is connected with the supply device.

  • Publication number: 20020183726
Abstract: The invention relates to a hand piece which is used to manually direct a laser beam onto biological tissue for the purpose of cosmetic or medical treatment A start/stop signal transmitter (11) for a laser beam source (7) integrated into the inventive hand piece and at least one control device (12) for preselecting and/or changing the physical parameters of the laser beam (3) is also integrated therein. The inventive device allows an operator to activate and regulate the laser independently of a foot pedal device. When the parameters have to be adjusted during treatment, the operator no longer needs to avert his or her gaze from the treatment site and look at a control module placed at a distance from the treatment site.

  • Patent number: 4979967
Abstract: An apparatus and method for transporting hazardous, toxic or nuisance materials from the controlled chambers of removal sites to disposal sites and containing these materials by controlling the environment within the cargo area of a transport vehicle and for some distance outside it. The apparatus comprises a cargo chamber to control leakage and air flow, a regulated air handler to maintain a predetermined vacuum pressure within the cargo area relative to outside ambient pressure, a filtering system to trap air borne particles before exhausting into the outside environment and a wetting means, filter means and containment process for larger contaminates. The unit is self sufficient to provide its own generated electricity, liquid flow supply and automated control process enabling the containment system to function under stationary or mobile conditions for extended periods.

  • Patent number: 4696009
Abstract: A method and arrangement for producing ultrashort light pulses of tunable wavelength and pulse duration for use in spectroscopy, photobiology and in the medical science comprises a pumping radiation source for producing a substantially coherent radiation. A grating is provided for producing a first and a second partial beam from the coherent radiation which are superimposed in a laser active medium operating to the distributed feedback principle, for generating a laser beam in a first range of the laser active medium. According to the invention a third partial beam is produced at said grating. The third partial beam is fed into the laser active medium into a second range of the same which is either entirely or partially or not at all overlapping said first range. The second range is passed by the laser beam. A tiltable planoparallel plate is inserted into the coherent radiation for displacing the first and second partial beam relative to the third partial beam and, hence, the first and second range.
