Patent number: 11918697Abstract: This disclosure includes a description of a sanitizing system for sanitizing a mobile electronic device comprising: a housing; a sanitizer contained within the housing configured to emit radiation with a sanitizing effect; and an entry system with a default closed position, the entry system being configured to permit a mobile electronic device to pass through the entry system and then automatically return to the default closed position, the entry system comprising a first outer enclosure and a second inner obstruction; wherein the entry system blocks radiation emitted within the sanitizing system to a level acceptable for consumer use, or wherein the second inner obstruction provides more radiation attenuation than the first outer enclosure, and/or wherein the combination of the first outer enclosure and the second inner obstruction provides more radiation attenuation than the first outer enclosure by itself. Disclosed are internal reflectors to help distribute sanitizing radiation generally evenly.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2021Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: simplehuman, LLCInventors: Frank Yang, Ryan Wong, Cory Bowman, Frederick Bushroe, William Patrick Conley, Nasser Pirshafiey

Patent number: 9347138Abstract: A coating steel component with a pattern of an iron based matrix with crystalline particles metallurgically bound to the surface of a steel substrate for use as disc cutters or other components with one or more abrading surfaces that can experience significant abrasive wear, high point loads, and large shear stresses during use. The coated component contains a pattern of features in the shape of freckles or stripes that are laser formed and fused to the steel substrate. The features can display an inner core that is harder than the steel substrate but generally softer than the matrix surrounding the core, providing toughness and wear resistance to the features. The features result from processing an amorphous alloy where the resulting matrix can be amorphous, partially devitrified or fully devitrified.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2014Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: UT-BATTELLE, LLCInventors: Craig A. Blue, Frank Wong, Louis F. Aprigliano, Peter G. Engleman, William H. Peter, Tibor G. Rozgonyi, Levent Ozdemir

Patent number: 8299411Abstract: Systems for controlling flow effector control surfaces. The system comprises a flow effector control coupled to an elongated bar at one end of the bar. The elongated bar is coupled at the other end to the middle of a T-shaped member. A compliant link is coupled to the bar between the control surface and the T-shaped member. At each end of the T-shaped member is coupled a shape memory alloy wire which acts as an actuating means. When one of the shape memory alloy wire contracts, the elongated bar pivots about the compliant link and activates or retracts the flow effector control surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2008Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Her Majesty in Right of Canada as Represented by the Minister of National DefenceInventors: Frank Wong, Camille Alain Rabbath, Nicholas Lechevin, Olivier Boissonneault
