  • Patent number: 4984564
Abstract: The present invention relates to a surgical retractor which comprises an inflatable sleeve that may be deflated, when not in use, so as to assume a precoiled position; and which may be inflated by air pressure, when in use, so as to define an uncoiled generally circular aperture.

  • Patent number: 4966591
Abstract: A needle assembly for use in withdrawing bodily fluids has a body and a hollow needle extending through the body along a centrally located axis therethrough. The needle has a first end extending outwardly along the axis from a first side of the body and a second end extending from a second side of the body opposite the first side. The two cover elements are pivotally connected to the body for rotation toward and away each other in a plane containing the needle about two pivot points thereon. The cover elements have free ends extending outwardly from the body. Each cover element has a longitudinal extending interior cavity with an open side. This cavity extends beyond the tip of the first end of the needle so that when the two cover elements are rotated towards one another into a closed position, the needle is entirely surrounded by an enlarged cavity. When the needle is to be exposed, the cover elements are rotated away from one another into an open position exposing the tip of the needle.

  • Patent number: 4908023
Abstract: A syringe assembly having a hollow barrel, a plunger and a hypodermic needle and is discardable after a single use. The hypodermic needle has a first end fixedly secured to and in communication with the barrel and has a free end for the discharge of medication therefrom upon the downward movement of the plunger within the barrel. The barrel is covered by a two-part hollow cylindrical sheath having a first part extending, when in a first position, along the barrel a distance allowing at least the partial exposure of the hypodermic needle and having a second part extending, when in the first position, a distance beyond the free end of the needle to substantially cover the same. The second part of the sheath has one end coupled to the first part by a breakable joint which can be broken so that the second part may be discarded prior to use.
