This device contains circuit boards arranged in such a manner to shield the CPU board from the RF transmission components. The power source of the device is a battery pack designed to insure the correct electropolarity of the batteries when inserted.

Abstract: A portable, hand-held microprocessor-based terminal forms the heart of an expandable data communication system having an architecture configured so that a variety of peripheral devices can communicate directly with the microprocessor in the portable terminal. Access to the microprocessor and associated on-board memory is made by way of an external connector coupled directly to the internal bus structure of the terminal. Data may be collected, for example, by way of inputs to a keyboard on the terminal or an optional sensor module detachably connected to the bus connector on the terminal housing. An expansion unit takes the form of a base adapted to support the portable terminal and to make connections between the terminal bus connector and peripheral devices plugged into the base so that they can communicate with the terminal microprocessor via the internal bus.

Abstract: The housing for a hand-held terminal includes a first acoustical coupler having a muffler disposed therein facing the bottom of the housing. A hinged cover plate includes a second acoustical coupler having a muffler member adapted to nest within the other muffler when the cover plate is pivoted to a closed position flush with the bottom of the housing. When the cover member is pivoted to an open position it contacts a shoulder on the housing providing an abutment surface to hold the cover plate in an angular position conforming with the configuratiion of a telephone handset.
