  • Publication number: 20070182672
Abstract: An active matrix display comprises a select driver (SD) to drive select electrodes (SE), and a data driver (DD) to supply data (D) to data electrodes (DE). Pixels (10) are associated with intersections of the data electrodes (DE) and the select electrodes (SE). The pixels (10) comprise a light emitting element (L) and a pixel driving circuit (PD). The pixel driving circuit (PD) receives a power supply voltage (VB) via a power supply electrode (PE), and data (D) via a data electrode (DE) to control a brightness of the light emitting element (L). A power supply (PS) supplies the power supply voltage (VB). The power supply electrodes (PE) are arranged to supply the power supply voltage (VB) to the pixel driving circuits (PD) of lines of pixels (10) extending in the same direction as the select electrodes (SE) or in the same direction as the data electrodes (DE).

  • Publication number: 20060250327
Abstract: Disclosed is an energy recovery device for recovering energy in a display panel, in particular a plasma display panel, wherein an energy recovery storing unit (Lrecover) is coupled with the display panel during an energy recovery period following a sustain period. The particularity of the invention is that the energy recovery recover storing unit (Lrecover) is charged in said sustain step.

  • Publication number: 20050259047
Abstract: A three electrode PDP comprises a scan driver (SD) which supplies a substantially sine wave shaped voltage (VS) between first and the second scan electrodes (SEi, CEi), an amplitude of the substantially sine wave shaped voltage (VS) being large enough to sustain plasma cells (PCij), but being too small to ignite the plasma cells (PCij). A data driver (DD) supplies a substantially pulse shaped voltage (VD) to the data electrodes (DEi) for controlling an amount of light produced by the plasma cells (PCij). The sine wave shaped voltage may have a predetermined frequency such that more than one stable light output level is obtained.

  • Publication number: 20050248512
Abstract: Matrix display device having row electrodes (4) and column electrodes (5), an intersection of a row and a column electrode defining a pixel cell (1) having a pixel cell capacitance (8), and drive circuits (2,3). Blind energy used for charging the pixel cell capacitances (8) when driving the pixel cells (1) is not dissipated but stored into a buffer capacitor (6) through an inductor (7) forming a series inductor-capacitor circuit and subsequently recovered by discharging the buffer capacitor (6) into the pixel cell capacitances (8) through a current source (13). Energy recovery is thus current driven, which allows to control the light reflected or emitted by the pixel cell (1) in a manner which is less dependent on temperature variations and/or ageing of the device.

  • Publication number: 20050140591
Abstract: A plasma display apparatus comprises a waveform generator (WG) coupled between first and the second electrodes (SEl, CEl) to supply, across plasma cells (PCij), a sustain voltage (VCP) with slopes comprising a main part (MA) and a minor part (MI) succeeding the main part (MA). The main part has a duration longer than a formative time 5 lag (FTL) of the plasma cells (PCij), and the minor part has a smaller amplitude than the main part (MA). The plasma cells (pCij) are ignited and sustained by the minor part (MI). The main part (MA) has less steep slopes than the prior-art waveform. Consequently, the EMI produced by the main part (MA) will be at a lower frequency. The minor part (MI) has an amplitude which is relatively low and thus does not add considerably to the EMI, even 10 when its slopes are relatively steep. As the plasma is neither ignited nor sustained by the main part (MA), the main part (MA) further has a lower amplitude than the slope of the prior art and thus produces less EMI.

  • Publication number: 20050082957
Abstract: In a flatpanel display apparatus comprising plasma discharge cells (c) having sustain electrodes (Su) and scan electrodes (Sc), a drive circuit having a circuit (23) for providing data to the discharge cells (c) incorporating an energy recovery circuit and means for activating the energy recovery circuit is provided. The data supplied to the discharge cells (c) is arranged in subfields, and the means for activating the energy recovery circuit activate the energy recovery circuit only for a part of the total number of subfields.
