Patent number: 6164103Abstract: A method for improving the contour of rolled material over at least one segment of a rolling schedule including a plurality of rolling processes. The method includes associating at least one quality criterion with at least one rolling stand of at least one of the plurality of rolling processes, optimizing the at least one quality criterion using a mathematical formula, predetermining at least one work roll shift for the plurality of rolling processes over the at least one segment of the rolling schedule based on an optimization of the at least one quality criterion, and axially shifting at least one work roll of the at least one rolling stand.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbHInventors: Rudolf Pichler, Sonja Tichy, Franz Holy, Alois Seilinger

Patent number: 6161992Abstract: A machining system has a frame forming a working station and a mounting plate movable relative to the frame in and adjacent the station in a first main direction, in a second direction transverse to the main direction, and in a third direction transverse to the first and second directions. A machine tool head is mounted on the mounting plate and a plurality of struts have outer ends swiveled on the mounting plate and extending inward away from the plate. A mechanism acting on the struts moves the plate and tool head in the three directions. A main panel is movable only in the first and second directions and the head is mounted in the panel for movement relative thereto only in the third direction. In addition a pair of side panels of changeable length each have an inner edge connected along a respective inner axis parallel to the third direction to a respective outer edge of the main panel and a respective outer edge connected at a respective outer axis parallel to the third direction on the frame.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1999Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: Ernst Krause & Co.Inventors: Franz Holy, Karl Steiner

Patent number: 4936174Abstract: A center-drive lathe has a longitudinally elongated machine base having a front, a back, and a pair of longitudinally spaced ends. A centerstock is generally centrally mounted on the front of the base and a pair of guides on the front of the base extend longitudinally at least from the centerstock to the ends of the base. Respective carriages are displaceable longitudinally along the guides between the ends and the centerstock so that a workpiece can be spanned in and rotated by the centerstock and worked by tools held on the carriages. A stack of interconnected telescoping plates including one end plate connected to one of the carriages and another end plate connected to the other carriage extends over the guides and past the centerstock between the carriages. The guides are thus covered between the carriages by the telescoping stack of plates.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1989Date of Patent: June 26, 1990Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Heid AktiengesellschaftInventors: Franz Holy, Heinz Mang

Patent number: 4872380Abstract: A workpiece positioner usable with a lathe having a headstock rotatable about a lathe axis has a base adjacent the lathe and defining an upright base axis offset from the lathe axis, a gripper support pivotal on the base about the base axis and defining a horizontal support axis, a positioner head pivotal on the support about the support axis, and a pair of grippers each including a respective pair of gripper jaws displaceable on the head transversely of the support axis.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1988Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Assignee: Maschininfabrik Heid AktiengesellschaftInventors: Franz Holy, Walter List

Patent number: 4837918Abstract: An inclined-bed machine-tool assembly is provided having a tool carriage movable in the y-axis and bearing detachable tools, a tool-storage magazine for tools not in use, and a tool-loading means for moving the tools to and from the storage magazine and loading them into, as well as unloading them from, the tool carriage. The machine can be operated under programmatic control.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1988Date of Patent: June 13, 1989Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Heid AktiengesellschaftInventors: Franz Holy, Hans Nader

Patent number: 4774753Abstract: A measuring device for a machine tool comprises at least one sensor mounted on a supporting arm which is movable with the help of a carriage. To perform an exact measurement of the distance between two diametrically opposed points on a work piece, the supporting arm with the sensor is slidably and/or pivotally mounted on the carriage to displace the sensor in a transverse direction over the machine tool turning center. A folding in and out of the supporting arm which is mounted on a holder on the carriage occurs during insertion into and withdrawal from a storage pocket of a tool magazine. Air cleaning means and cooling means for the sensor and the workpiece are provided. In another embodiment of the measuring device the supporting arm can be approximately U-shaped mounted on a shaft with a sensor on the end of each U-leg for a two point workpiece measurement, can be slid along the holder for the supporting arm and is pivotable about 90 degrees.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1986Date of Patent: October 4, 1988Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Heid AGInventors: Franz Holy, Alfred Lebersorger

Patent number: 4635329Abstract: In machine tools, for selective utilization of fixed tools, or tools which are adapted to be driven and rotated, a common tool retainer is provided in the toolhead. The toolhead comprises a spur gear or similar driver, or comprises drive components for operatively engaging a rotating tool. The toolhead is adapted to be rotated about an axis which is disposed at an angle of 45.degree. with respect to the main axis and the transverse axis of the machine tool and which intersects the line of intersection of the tool carrier planes which extend parallel to the longitudinal and transverse planes. A journal arrangement for the driven tools is installed in the tool retainer itself, or in the toolhead.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1984Date of Patent: January 13, 1987Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Heid AktiengesellschaftInventors: Franz Holy, Karl Steiner

Patent number: 4626149Abstract: A rotating toolhead on a preferably longitudinally movable headstock of a machine tool is disclosed. The machine tool includes at least one head carriage radially movable on the toolhead with at least one toolholder on the carriage. A motor for advancing the head carriage is operatively connectable to a drive transmission, and an axially movable driver is associated with the drive transmission and engages a ring arranged rotation-fast and longitudinally movable on a main spindle. An angular drive transfer engages with inclined planar teeth in corresponding teeth of the head carriage for movement thereof. Several groups of toolheads are also disclosed which can be arranged to form a machining line.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1984Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: Machinefabrik Heid AktiengesellschaftInventors: Franz Holy, Johann Eigner
