  • Patent number: 4934310
Abstract: Coating apparatus is provided for use in coating a sheet of goods which is carried on a counter-roller. The coating apparatus includes a coating zone which is formed along the sheet to be coated. At least one deflector is provided in the coating zone for deflecting the return flow of coating material deflected at the coating blade to a divergence angle of less than 90 degrees relative to the emerging flow of fresh coating material from the outlet port of the chamber containing the coating material. In general, angle of divergence between the two opposing flows of coating material is less than 60 degrees. In this manner, the amount of agitation and turbulence in the flow of material is minimized.

  • Patent number: 4834018
Abstract: A coating device where the pressurized coating space formed between the doctor element and the material web and/or the counter roll carrying it is defined by a regulating plate on the inlet side relative to the material web. A guide device is so arranged in the coating space that coating mixture will circulate around it on all sides in one direction of rotation. The guide device generally leaves only relatively narrow flow channels open in the coating chamber so that harmful turbulent flows are extensively avoided which through pulsating air inclusions might lead to defects in the applied coating.

  • Patent number: 4738877
Abstract: A coating material is transferred to the surface of a spreader-roll from a spreader-mechanism. The spreader-roll is partly wrapped by a strip of material. In the location where the said strip of material is lifted off the spreader-roll, a doctor-element, comprising a doctor-blade, is arranged to rest tangentially on the spreader-roll. The doctor-element thereby forms a rubbing distributing surface which faces the strip of material and ensures a smooth and uniform coating of the coating material on the strip of material. The strip of material is then carried away over a sharp tear-off edge on the doctor-element at an angle of less than 20.degree.. In this way a coating of any desired thickness may be applied to a strip of material, more particularly as a coating for a strip of paper.

  • Patent number: 4495888
Abstract: A coating mechanism for coating continuous webs of product, especially paper products, comprising a support member having a coating blade supported thereon by a clamping device, the coating blade having a coating surface and a coating edge. The coating blade and the web of product form therebetween an application slot, and the clamping device includes an expansible pressure member adapted to contain a pressure medium. A pressure chamber is installed on the support member and is tiltable about an axis disposed between the pressure member and the coating blade so as to transfer the expansion force of the pressure member to the coating blade. The pressure chamber has an opening therein and is adapted to supply a coating composition through the opening to the application slot for application by the coating blade onto the web of product.

  • Patent number: 4157794
Abstract: A rolling device for rolling up a sheet onto roll formers or spools: a roll former is inserted between and supported on two supporting rollers and a sheet is wound on it; the finished wound roll on its roll former is lifted off one of the supporting rollers looping the sheet, and the slack loop section is stapled to the next roll former; the sheet is cut off at the new roll former.
