  • Publication number: 20080271836
Abstract: For transferring a coating in the form of a desired image coating from a backing film to a printed sheet, an adhesive layer in the form of the desired image is applied to the printed sheet. The transfer foil comprising the image-type coating is rolled over the printed sheet using contact pressure in a coating unit (2), in such a way that the coating adheres to the adhesive sections, thus forming an image. To improve the flexibility of this application in a printing press, either the coating unit or the adhesive application unit (1) and the coating unit (2) are located in one or more coating modules of a printing press, thus producing a simple, compact film transfer module (F).

  • Patent number: 6311619
Abstract: The invention relates to a sheet-fed rotary printing machine with printing units for multi-color printing and with at least one coating unit. The object of the invention is, inter alia, to provide a sheet-fed rotary printing machine of the type described in the introduction, in which at least one coating unit can be used more universally and set-up times are reduced. This is achieved in that the coating unit 2, 3 is formed from an impression cylinder 10, a form cylinder 12 and a metering system 14 with a screened applicator roller 13. The applicator roller 13 has a circular segment congruent to the cylinder pit of the form cylinder 12, is at least the same size as the form cylinder 12 and can be imaged as a rough intaglio printing form.

  • Patent number: 5732628
Abstract: A sheet-conveying drum for use between units in a printing machine is provided with a plurality of gripper bridges arranged substantially circumferentially symmetrically on the drum surface. The gripper bridges hold the paper on the drum and include gripper impact strips that are adjustable substantially radially relative to the drum in order to accommodate printing materials of different thickness. Each gripper impact strip is adjusted by means of a positioning device that is arranged on the drum radially inward of the gripper impact strip and mounted so that it can move axially relative to the drum and cam the gripper impact strip radially. The axial movement of the positioning devices is brought about by two actuating devices which are mounted opposite each other on the side frames of the printing machine. The actuating devices are preferably pneumatic cylinders and are adapted so that when they are extended they periodically engage adapters on the free ends of the positioning devices as the drum rotates.
