  • Patent number: 6697616
Abstract: A method for functional testing of a transmission and reception path includes transmitting a first signal at a first transmission power level to a radio station and determining a first reception strength, with a base station. A first difference value is subsequently calculated. The radio station transmits a second signal at a second transmission power level to the base station, determines a second reception strength, and calculates a second difference value. Any difference between the difference values is then compared with a threshold value, and a function of a transmission and reception path is derived from the comparison. A base station of a radio communications system is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6687514
Abstract: A base station for a radio communications systems contains at least one carrier-related transceiver device and at least one central unit for controlling the base station. The transceiver device and the central unit each contain at least one interface device which are connected by at least one individual line in accordance with a point-to-point connection for transmitting traffic data. Therefore, point-to-point connections with individual lines for each transceiver device that do not need to satisfy the requirements of identical lengths are used instead of a bus structure. In this way, an essentially more cost-effective implementation of the transmission of traffic data between the central unit and transceiver device is possible because the data rate can also be increased in accordance with the length of the individual line. A logic bus structure is mapped onto physical point-to-point connections. Traffic data, o&m data and also synchronization data are transmitted using the bus structure.

  • Patent number: 6621874
Abstract: Data are transmitted through a radio interface in a GSM mobile radio system. The transmission side performs a continuous phase modulation of the transmission signals for the data to be transmitted. A bandwidth is used which is narrower than that used during a Gaussian minimum shift keying modulation with a modulation bandwidth BT equal to 0.3 so that the radio interface gives right of access on at least one channel with a reduced bandwidth. On the reception side, data detection is carried out without any discrimination between channels with different bandwidths. This enables substantially increased capacity of mobile radiotelephone networks and support for indoor and asymmetrical data transmission applications.

  • Patent number: 6377797
Abstract: A number of data processors, that each contain at least one processor, a memory and an interface, are provided in the inventive arrangement. The arrangement further comprises at least one digital transmitter that is connected to the data processors via a program bus and sends program code over the program bus, only parts thereof being stored in a respective data processor. The arrangement is particularly suited for transcoder units in mobile radiotelephone systems wherein a number of encoding methods are utilized or a switching in the sense of an adaptive multi-rate encoder ensues.

  • Patent number: 6353630
Abstract: The method is for the parameterization of at least one reception apparatus for a radio station, whereby the reception apparatus contains an adaptive pre-filter. The filter coefficients of the pre-filter for suppression of received noise quantities and the channel coefficients for the detector for compensating the transit time differences of different signal components of a reception signal are simultaneously determined. During a training sequence, test data present in the reception apparatus is evaluated with channel coefficients in a channel model, and received test data is evaluated with filter coefficients of the pre-filter and superposed to form antenna data or, respectively, model quantities. The minimization of the deviation of antenna data and model quantities is undertaken upon exclusion of the trivial solution. The method is especially suited for base stations and mobile parts in mobile radiotelephone systems.

  • Patent number: 6347223
Abstract: A method and a device are specified for data transmission via an air interface between radio stations in a radio communications system. Data to be transmitted are grouped into message blocks at the transmitting end, the message blocks respectively containing additional symbols of a training sequence. Thereupon, at least two message blocks with different training sequences are simultaneously transmitted on one channel, whereupon the data of the at least two message blocks are detected at the receiving end with knowledge of the at least two training sequences.

  • Patent number: 6314299
Abstract: When a mobile station first initiates a connection, the mobile station is synchronized on the basis of an evaluation of an organization channel in the mobile radio network. The mobile station transmits, in a frequency band of a home base station and to the home base station a message that contains a mobile-station-specific first identifier. The message is received and evaluated by the home base station. If the first identifier matches a second identifier registered for the home base station, a connection is set up between the mobile station and the home base station.

  • Patent number: 6301236
Abstract: A transmission, without modification of the transmission frequency, switches over the radiation characteristic for the radio signals corresponding to the time protocol of the message transmission, and the chronologically successive radio signals of a traffic relation are decorrelated to one another. In this way, the signal extinguishing that arises in a receiver due to multipath propagation can be reduced. The transmission apparatus is in particular constructed as a base station in GSM mobile radiotelephone networks.

  • Patent number: 6028893
Abstract: A signal evaluation apparatus, and method, for data reduction in the processing of signal values of a digital signal processing unit, for example, in a mobile communication system, wherein a block with k signal values is inventively stored in fixed decimal point format and a maximum value of the k signal values of the block is defined. Subsequently, the k signal values of the block are converted into floating decimal point format, whereby individual mantissas and a common exponent are determined for the converted samples. The data rate can be substantially reduced depending on the selected number of bits for the presentation of the mantissas and exponents. Advantageously, the block corresponds to the samples of a radio block or a part thereof.

  • Patent number: 5889825
Abstract: In the method for parameterizing at least one receiving device and a receiving device for a radio station, a plurality of decorrelated signals are received by an intelligent antenna device. Antenna weighting factors for suppressing received disturbances and channel coefficients for balancing out the differences in transit time of different signal components of a received signal are determined simultaneously. During a training sequence, test data present in the receiving device is rated in a channel model with channel coefficients and received test data is rated with antenna weighting factors and superposed to form antenna data or model variables. The minimizing of the deviation of antenna data and model variables is performed with the exclusion of the trivial solution. The method is suitable in particular for base stations in mobile radio systems.

  • Patent number: 5561842
Abstract: A ring-shaped network structure having a plurality of rings of range sections and a sector subdivision is provided, the number of which corresponds to the number of cells positioned along a ring. Positioned in the center is a base station with antennae arranged at a raised location for illuminating all cells or for the reception from the individual cells respectively. The antennae are designed as strongly focusing directional antennae which supply at least two cells lying in radial direction from the antenna location within the same sector with the same frequency in each case.
