  • Patent number: 7534328
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of making a carbon electrode, suitable for use as an anode in an aluminum reduction cell, which comprises mixing an aggregate, comprising a mixture of particulate shot coke, and a particulate carbonaceous material other than shot coke with coal tar pitch or petroleum pitch or a combination of these pitches at an elevated temperature to form a paste wherein said aggregate comprises a combination of butts, coarse, and fine particles and said particulate shot coke may comprise a majority of said coarse particles or fine particles, and said paste comprises from about 80 to about 90%, by weight, of said aggregate and from about 10 to about 20%, by weight, of said pitch; forming said paste into a solid body; and baking said solid body at an elevated temperature to form said carbon electrode.

  • Publication number: 20070071164
Abstract: A multifunctional hard x-ray nanoprobe instrument for characterization of nanoscale materials and devices includes a scanning probe mode with a full field transmission mode. The scanning probe mode provides fluorescence spectroscopy and diffraction contrast imaging. The full field transmission mode allows two-dimensional (2-D) imaging and tomography. The nanoprobe instrument includes zone plate optics for focusing and imaging. The nanoprobe instrument includes a stage group for positioning the zone plate optics. The nanoprobe instrument includes a specimen stage group for positioning the specimen. An enhanced laser Doppler displacement meter (LDDM) system provides two-dimensional differential displacement measurement in a range of nanometer resolution between the zone-plate optics and the sample holder. A digital signal processor (DSP) implements a real-time closed-loop feedback technique for providing differential vibration control between the zone-plate optics and the sample holder.

  • Patent number: 4974913
Abstract: The invention relates to a work-station arrangement, in which a number of components can be secured on a longitudinal girder. The longitudinal girder has substantially a rectangular hollow profile, at the corners of which are provided longitudinal grooves, which preferably widen toward the inside of the longitudinal girder. Furthermore, a central carrier pipe is provided, which is constructed integrally with the longitudinal girder through bracings. A fastening groove can be provided at least on one side of the girder, which groove has tooth systems on its walls for threadedly receiving screws. The components have hook-shaped holding elements attached thereto and insertable into the longitudinal grooves for securing the components to the girder.
