  • Publication number: 20060289675
Abstract: Apparatus is described for rapidly coating a large area, or for rapidly producing a powder. In one embodiment, a liquid having a coating chemical is pumped from a liquid reservoir to a distribution manifold. From the distribution manifold, the liquid is carried under pressure to a geometric array, e.g., linear, of atomization nozzles. Flow equalization means are provided for equalizing the flow of the liquid delivered to each nozzle, and, preferably, means are provided for equalizing the temperature of the liquid delivered to each nozzle. The liquid, upon exiting the nozzles with the attendant pressure drop atomizes. The atomized liquid coats a substrate either in non-reacted or reacted form, or forms a powder. In a preferred embodiment, a solution of precursor chemical is reacted in a geometric array of flames produced at the nozzles, and a coating material produced in the flame coats the substrate, or a powder is formed.

  • Patent number: 5707412
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of reducing marking of a heat softened glass sheet which results when portions of the sheet are contacted by glass sheet handling equipment. The portions of the sheet susceptible to marking are sprayed with an inert material having a melting point and decomposition temperature of at least 1200.degree. F. to form a layer that protects the sheet portion against marking from the equipment. In one particular embodiment of the invention, the lower major surface of a glass sheet is sprayed with an aqueous solution of sodium sulfate to form a layer of sodium sulfate along the glass surface which protect against marking of the glass by conveyor rolls.

  • Patent number: 5695876
Abstract: A method and composition are disclosed for applying an organic acid-containing aqueous composition to a glass surface to prevent staining thereof wherein a wetting agent is employed to provide uniform and complete wetting of the glass surface with a uniform continuous film of said organic acid-containing aqueous composition.

  • Patent number: 5547129
Abstract: The present invention provides a multiple nozzle liquid spray assembly having a longitudinally extending bar member, receivers to allow securing of nozzles along the bar, a coolant conduit extending along at least a portion of the bar, liquid and gas conduits extending along the bar in close proximity to each of the receivers, and first and second sets of passages interconnecting each of the receivers with the liquid or gas conduits. In one particular embodiment of the invention, the coolant conduit includes a first portion which extends from a coolant inlet along a first longitudinal side of the bar member and a second portion which extends from a coolant outlet along an opposing longitudinal side of the bar member. The liquid conduit and gas conduit generally parallel each other and extend along the bar member between the first and second portions of the cooling conduit.
