  • Patent number: 4375421
Abstract: Aqueous solutions containing alkylamido betaines and certain water-soluble inorganic or organic salts provide compositions of remarkably high viscosities. The inorganic salts suitable for this purpose are the sulfates of metals from Groups IA, IIA, IIB, and IIIA of the period table; sulfates of non-metallic ions; and alkali metal carbonates. Organic salts suitable in the present compositions include the citrates, tartrates, succinates, and carboxymethyloxysuccinates of metals from Groups IA, IIA, IIB and IIIA of the period table and the citrates, tartrates, succinates and carboxymethyloxysuccinates of ammonium ions. These salts have a synergistic viscosity-building effect on aqueous compositions containing alkylamido betaines in combination with micelle-forming anionic surfactants. Other salts increase the viscosity of aqueous solutions containing alkylamido betaines only in the presence of anionic surfactants.

  • Patent number: 4129423
Abstract: Pourable, stable, liquid, abrasive compositions capable of removing manganese-ion derived discolorations from hard surfaces comprising a solid phase homogeneously dispersed and stabilized within an aqueous liquid phase are disclosed. Said solid phase comprises a water insoluble abrasive material. Said liquid phase comprises a stabilizing mixture, of a tertiary mixture of synthetic anionic surfactant, soap, and a nonionic surfactant, and an electrolyte system, said system comprising a stain removing amount of at least one electrolyte selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal salt of dihydroxy maleic acid, an alkali metal salt of dihydroxy tartaric acid, and mixtures thereof.
