  • Patent number: 8392062
Abstract: A method and a device for assisting a driver of a vehicle to avoid collisions with obstacles are provided, in which method at least one obstacle is detected by way of at least one surroundings sensor, and data of the obstacle are ascertained. On the basis of the data of the obstacle and data of the vehicle, a vehicle deceleration that is favorable for assistance of an evasive operation is ascertained, and the vehicle is correspondingly decelerated.

  • Patent number: 8125372
Abstract: In a method for checking the plausibility of objects in driver assistance systems for motor vehicles is described, two measured variables are derived from position data from two object position-finding systems of the vehicle that operate independently of one another, for an object located by the two position-finding systems, one variable for each position-finding system, these variables representing one and the same physical parameter, and the two measured variables are then checked for consistency, which is characterized by the fact that the parameter is the time to collision of the vehicle with the object, which is calculated in advance.

  • Patent number: 7840354
Abstract: A method and a device for automatic triggering of deceleration of a vehicle for preventing a collision, which is accomplished by the fact that a variable, which represents a probability of collision with another vehicle, must exceed a predefinable threshold value, and the threshold value is variable as a function of the driver's response, the current driving situation, or the ambient situation. To determine the change in the threshold value, signals from a steering angle sensor, a brake pedal sensor, an accelerator pedal sensor, a device for determining the speed of the vehicle, a device for determining the uphill or downhill slope of the road, a device for determining the vehicle yaw rate, a device for determining the vehicle float angle or a device for detecting stationary and moving objects in the vicinity of the vehicle, in particular in the area in front of the vehicle, are analyzed.

  • Patent number: 7729841
Abstract: In a method and a device for predicting movement trajectories of a vehicle to prevent or reduce the consequences of an imminent collision, in which for predicting the movement trajectories, only those trajectories are considered for which, because of a combination of steering intervention and braking intervention, the forces occurring at the wheels of the vehicle are within the range corresponding to the maximum force transferable from the wheel to the road. Particularly for systems which provide an automatic braking and/or steering intervention for avoiding a collision or reducing the severity of a crash with another object, an automatic braking and/or steering intervention is carried out as a function of the pre-calculated movement trajectories.

  • Patent number: 7515056
Abstract: In a method for preventing collisions of vehicles, first the surroundings of a vehicle 2 and motion parameters of the vehicle 2 are detected by means of sensors 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5. From the output signals of the sensors, a failure-to-yield criterion and a collision risk criterion are derived. From a combination of the failure-to-yield criterion and the collision risk criterion, a risk level is ascertained. Depending on the particular risk level ascertained, finally, steps for reducing the risk of collision are initiated.

  • Patent number: 7035735
Abstract: A method and a device for automatically triggering a deceleration of a vehicle so as to prevent a collision with another object. Objects in the range of the vehicle's course being detected using signals of an apparatus for sending and receiving radar signals or lidar signals, or of an apparatus for receiving video signals. An endangerment potential is determined as a function of the objects detected, and when a predefined endangerment potential theshold value, which may be less than the triggering threshold value for the deceleration, is exceeded, the deceleration means of the vehicle are reset to a state in preparation for braking. Furthermore, additional vehicle functions may be carried out when the endangerment potential threshold value is exceeded, whereby passenger safety in this travel situation is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 7015805
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling deceleration devices of a vehicle during a braking operation, e.g., a vehicle which is equipped with a sensor for adaptive cruise control. During the braking operation, risk dimensions are determined on the basis of driving dynamics models, which are individualized by signals of the surrounding-field sensor system. A first risk dimension is precalculated for the case of continued deceleration and a second risk dimension is precalculated for the case of unbraked further movement of the vehicle. Through the comparison of the two risk dimensions, it is decided whether the automatic vehicle deceleration is to be maintained or whether the braking is to be canceled before the vehicle is brought to a standstill.

  • Patent number: 6940448
Abstract: A method and a device for ascertaining the imminence of an unavoidable collision of a vehicle with an object, all locations within a determinable prediction time interval being predetermined as a function of the maximum possible longitudinal acceleration and lateral acceleration of the vehicle and of the at least one object. The imminence of an unavoidable collision between the vehicle and the object may be recognized, also taking into account the extension of the vehicle and of the at least one object.

  • Publication number: 20050071084
Abstract: A method for influencing a system that controls or regulates the position and/or the orientation of a motor vehicle with respect to a traffic lane is provided. The system is deactivated if a danger of collision with an obstacle in the traffic lane is detected, and that the system is activated only if a potentially dangerous situation with respect to the driving dynamics of the motor vehicle is detected.

  • Patent number: 6856906
Abstract: A method and a device for triggering and implementing a deceleration of a vehicle to avoid a collision, in which, using a device for adaptive cruise control, objects in the sensor detection range are detected and measured variables are determined for each detected object. The detected objects are assigned to various object classes on the basis of the determined, associated measured variables, and the movement trajectories of the objects are predicted on the basis of the assignment of the detected objects to the particular class. Furthermore, a collision risk and an injury risk are determined from these predicted movement trajectories of the objects and the associated, detected object classes. In the event of the existence of preselected combinations of collision risks and injury risks, the deceleration devices of the vehicle are activated as a function of the degree of the collision risk.
