  • Publication number: 20090278376
Abstract: A relatively lightweight tarping system for use with trailers or other open top containers includes first and second spaced frame members and an elongated flexible member such as a cable or chain connected to and extending therebetween. A tarpaulin may be mounted thereon so that the frame members, flexible member and tarpaulin are pivotable between a covered position atop the open top container and an uncovered position. A four-bar linkage is preferably used in combination with a rotational drive mechanism to provide various advantages in rotating the tarpaulin assembly between the covered and uncovered positions. A width adjustment mechanism is provided to provide usage with trailers or other open top containers of different widths. An improved seal is provided between the tarpaulin and container.

  • Patent number: 7506729
Abstract: A single unit of the new deployment system includes a housing to which an electric drive motor is externally mounted. The deployment system for each vehicle requires at least a pair of deployment units: one each for right and left wheels. Each unit includes a reversible electric drive motor having an armature shaft; an intermediate drive shaft; a worm axially affixed to the intermediate drive shaft; an output shaft; a shock damper affixed to the output shaft; a worm gear affixed to the shock damper, the worm gear meshing with the worm, and providing rotational locking for said output shaft; and a deployment arm coupled to the output shaft, the deployment arm having rotatably mounted thereto a friction drive disc, said friction drive disc having peripherally attached thereto a plurality of chain segments.

  • Publication number: 20090067965
Abstract: An apparatus for collecting refuse, the apparatus comprising a vehicle having a frame formed as two substantially parallel members and a hopper secured to the frame. First and second bins may be connected by respective first and second dumping mechanisms to opposite, exterior sides of the hopper. The first and second dumping mechanisms may selectively and independently move respective first and second bins between stowed positions substantially below the hopper and dumping positions above the hopper. The width between the exterior extremes of the first and second bins when both are in stowed positions may substantially be defined by a summation of the width of the first bin, the distance between the outer extremes of the frame, and the width of the second bin.

  • Publication number: 20080277903
Abstract: An apparatus for raising a spring arm of a trailer hitch. The apparatus may include a lift, such as a jack, for attaching to a tongue of a trailer. A link member may be pivotally attached to the lift. The link member may also be pivotally attached to a bracket which may be attached to the spring arm. A brace member may be attached to the link member on an end opposite the bracket. As the lift raises the link member, the link member may pivot about the brace member such that movement of the bracket may be amplified as compared to movement of the lift. Moreover, lifting of the spring arm can be easily accomplished.

  • Patent number: 7350636
Abstract: A door assembly for a chute system comprising a door pivotally connected to a frame assembly mountable around an opening in a chute system. The door is manufactured from stainless steel and is free of welds. The door includes an automatic closer mounted to its interior surface and being directly connected to the frame assembly at one end and to the door at the other end. When the door is opened, the closer moves with the door out of the opening to the chute system, thereby increasing the usable space for inserting articles into the chute. The closer does not intrude into the interior of the chute when the door is in a closed position. The door may also include a deflector plate mounted proximate the door hinge to protect the hinge and prevent debris from articles inserted into the chute from dropping into the gap between the door and frame and interfering with the action of the hinge.

  • Patent number: 7350846
Abstract: A tarpaulin system for covering an open top container typically mounted on a truck includes a four-bar linkage wherein one of the bars is extendable and typically a first linear actuator. A tarpaulin is windingly mounted on the linkage and a second actuator is connected to the four-bar linkage in order to provide primary movement of the linkage. The tarpaulin is movable between a stowed position between the cab of a truck and the front of the container to a deployed position adjacent the rear of the container in order to cover the open top of the container. The four-bar linkage allows the tarpaulin to move from the stowed axis Forwardly toward the cab and upwardly above the container by operation of the second actuator without use of the first actuator.

  • Publication number: 20080042399
Abstract: A trailer assembly for use with a towing vehicle such as a dump truck. The assembly comprises a pup trailer that has a fixed or a terminally-steerable front axle and an adjustable length tongue that secures the trailer to the towing vehicle. The trailer and tongue are secured to each other by a pivot that has a single lateral axis. The pivot permits vertical pivoting of the trailer and tongue relative to each other through a range of motion that is as much as forty degrees above and below the horizontal. The pivot resists lateral pivoting motion between the tongue and trailer. The assembly permits the trailer to be easily towed over uneven terrain and resists the tendency of the trailer to tip during towing and during dumping.

  • Patent number: 7320572
Abstract: An apparatus and method to facilitate unloading material from the cargo area (e.g. bed) of a vehicle. The apparatus may include a flexible member placed to line the bottom of the cargo area before a load is placed therein. After moving the vehicle to a desired location, a friction-reducing member may be placed to extend across the rear edge of the cargo area (e.g. the rear edge of an open tailgate). One end of the flexible member may be wrapped around the friction-reducing member and placed just behind the rear wheels of the vehicle. The vehicle may then be moved in reverse. The wheels of the vehicle roll over the flexible material, fixing one end thereof to the ground. The friction reducing member acts like a pulley (whether rolling with, or simply sliding with respect to, the flexible member) at the edge of the moving tailgate, drawing the flexible member and associated load out of the cargo area of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7309205
Abstract: A trailer unloading system anchors one or more trailers to a deck, with, or without tractor attached. The sides of the trailers are free to pivot from a top, longitudinal, pivot axis once unlatched from the edge of the trailer floor. The deck tilts the trailers sideways, the doors swing free, and the load discharges. The deck returns to level, the sides latch to support the floor and the trailers are ready to be reloaded.
