    Abstract: Delivery of water solutions in metered drops through a metered valve aerosol package by specific selection of propellant and valve actuator allows multidose dispensing of preservative-free product formulations to a selected site of application. A known type of metering valve is used with a water-soluble propellant, which permits dispensing of a single drop of product in the form of a clear drop or an unstable, readily breakable foam. The propellant rapidly evaporates from the drop, while any foam collapses, leaving a clear liquid drop. A preferred propellant is dimethyl ether.
