  • Patent number: 8656499
Abstract: Bit-stripping methods are described for protecting digital media content against illicit recording and sharing. In one such method, a client device receives the media content and performs bit stripping on the received media content, thereby creating two datasets: stripped data and recombination data. The client device then recombines the datasets to reconstitute the media content, and it plays back the media content. Preferably, the media content on the client device is not available to recording software, and either the stripped data or the recombination data is also unavailable to such software. The client device may store one of these datasets; when future playback is desired, the client device requests the other of the datasets from a server. The bit-stripping may be performed in a client-specific way to discourage sharing of datasets.

  • Patent number: 7764955
Abstract: A method and system for routing a call based on calling device type is disclosed. In a communication network, an originating switch may receive a call request from a calling device seeking to connect with a dialed number. The originating switch may responsively send into a signaling system a call-setup message that conveys information including a calling device type indicator, such as a serial number of the calling device. A controller may then use the calling device type as a basis to select a destination to which the call should be routed in order to facilitate connecting with the dialed number. The invention can be usefully employed to facilitate routing of customer service calls concerning a calling device.

  • Patent number: 7582844
Abstract: Devices and methods are provided that control gas flow to a plasma arc torch local to a torch handle. Generally, a plasma arc torch is provided that comprises a gas control device operable with a torch lead and a torch head, and an activation member operable with the gas control device. Accordingly, the activation member activates the gas control device such that gas flow is supplied from the torch lead to the torch head, and the activation member deactivates the gas control device such that the gas flow is terminated. Further, the activation member may comprise a trigger system, a button, or a safety member, among others. Moreover, the gas control device may comprise a gas control valve or a switch that activates a gas control device disposed within a power supply, among others.

  • Patent number: 7242944
Abstract: The method and system provides for receiving at a local base transceiver station a wireless signal and for routing that signal from the local base transceiver station to a remote base station controller. In exemplary embodiments, control logic stored in local components of a wireless telecommunications network can select one of multiple remote base station controllers to which to route the signal. Further, local telecommunications components can make these selections based on the occurrence of various triggering events, such as the occurrence of a particular time/day/date, or such as the involvement of a particular client station, or the signal having a particular form or content.

  • Patent number: 7109603
Abstract: A system and method for integrating communications equipment. The system includes a power supply in which the power supply provides power to telephone equipment located in a centralized unit and at least one power converter for receiving the power from the power supply and having a chassis for supporting at least one power converter module. The power converter converts the power from the power supply into at least one output voltage for powering a second set of communications equipment, and the second set of communications equipment is located in the centralized unit. In one arrangement, the second set of communications equipment can include cable television equipment.

  • Publication number: 20050258150
Abstract: A dual mode plasma arc torch is provided that preferably comprises a start cartridge disposed between an electrode and a tip. In one form, the start cartridge comprises an initiator that is in electrical contact with the electrode and that is resiliently biased into contact with the tip, such that when the plasma arc torch is in a contact start mode, the initiator is movable against the resilient bias to separate from the tip and establish a pilot arc between the initiator and the tip. Further, when the plasma arc torch is in a high frequency start mode, the start cartridge spaces the tip from the electrode such that a pilot arc is established between the electrode and the tip. In other forms, a contact start torch is provided that is operable under high frequency, and conversely, a high frequency start torch is provided that is operable under low voltage.

  • Publication number: 20050242068
Abstract: In a plasma arc torch parts distribution network, the present invention provides a method of providing plasma arc torch parts for use in a single plasma arc torch model through a plurality of distribution channels. In one form of the present invention, the method comprises the steps of providing a first set of plasma arc torch parts to a replacement parts distributor, providing a second set of plasma arc torch parts to an original equipment manufacturer, and providing a third set of plasma arc torch parts to a select original equipment manufacturer. The first, second, and third set of plasma arc torch parts are not interchangeable such that the replacement parts distributor, the original equipment manufacturer, and the select original equipment manufacturer maintain separate inventories of plasma arc torch parts.

  • Patent number: 6773304
Abstract: A tamper resistant pin connection for use in a plasma arc cutting apparatus is provided that comprises a plurality of locking fingers within a hollow internal channel of a housing that secure a negative lead gas carrying pin within the housing. The pin comprises a first collar with a shoulder disposed thereon, and accordingly, the locking fingers engage the shoulder to secure the pin within the housing. The pin further comprises a second collar that blocks access to the locking fingers through a first portion of the hollow internal channel such that the locking fingers cannot be accessed to disengage the pin. Further, the pin is recessed within a second portion of the hollow internal channel to prevent further access to the pin for a tamper resistant pin connection.

  • Patent number: 6683273
Abstract: A quick disconnect for use in a plasma arc torch is provided wherein a plurality of connections disposed therein are configured such that the connections break in a specific order when the quick disconnect is disengaged. Preferably, the quick disconnect comprises a plurality of signal pin connections, a pilot return connection, a fluid connection, and a main power connection. Accordingly, the signal pin connections break before the pilot return connection, the fluid connection, and the main power connection. Further, the pilot return connection breaks before the fluid connection and the main power connection, and the fluid connection breaks before the main power connection as the quick disconnect is disengaged. As a result, a safer quick disconnect in which both gas and electric power are conducted is provided by the present invention.
