  • Patent number: 6006696
Abstract: A clam shell style large hay bale feeder includes a rectangular frame supporting a bale holding clam shell structure with two opposing sides formed by respective sets of steel straps. The sides are attached to the support frame such that they can fold inward and outward within the frame. Each adjacent pair of straps is spaced apart a distance sufficient to form a livestock feeding station. The clam shell structure folds inward about a hay bale placed in it such that the bale is always securely clamped in the clam shell and such that feeding livestock have constant access to the perimeter of the bale as it diminishes in size. A number of different operating mechanisms are described which serve to reopen the clam shell after the bale is consumed.

  • Patent number: 5816767
Abstract: A transport locking system for a movable-deck trailer includes a telescoping sleeve which is positioned in parallel with a main deck piston and cylinder unit beneath the trailer deck. The main cylinder and the telescoping sleeve are placed in a neutral position when the deck is in the transport position, extended to raise the deck to a dock high position, and retracted to lower the deck to a ramp position. A locking bar is pivotably mounted atop the telescoping sleeve and the locking bar is controlled by a locking piston and cylinder unit to selectively engage or disengage a recess in the sleeve to thereby lock or unlock the sleeve, and thus constrain the deck to the transport position. A switching and control system is provided to coordinate the control of the main deck piston and cylinder unit with the control of the locking piston and cylinder unit.

  • Patent number: 5782514
Abstract: A pivoting tail light bar system is attached beneath the rear of the deck of a movable-deck trailer and includes a tail light bar which pivots upwards as it contacts the ground during tilting of the trailer deck. The tail light bar automatically returns from its upper position to a normal trailering position as the deck is returned from the tilted to a horizontal transport position. The pivoting tail light bar is attached to a pair of shock absorbing support arms which absorb impacts directed at the tail light bar from the rear of the trailer. In an alternative embodiment, tail lights are conventionally placed on the rear of the trailer deck and a pivoting bumper system is provided which pivots upwards to cover and protect the lights when the deck is placed in the tilted position.

  • Patent number: 5775868
Abstract: A movable-deck trailer is provided which includes a frame with front and back ends, a tongue assembly mounted on the frame front end and a deck mounted on top of the frame. A wheeled carriage is mounted on the frame between its front and back ends and includes a pair of walking beam assemblies adapted for pivoting with respect to the frame. Each walking beam assembly mounts multiple torque tube axle/suspension assemblies. The carriage is longitudinally movable with respect to the frame and deck. A multiple-vehicle, movable-deck trailer includes multiple deck portions, the rearmost being tiltable. A movable-deck trailer adapted for tilting under the influence of either gravity or hydraulic power includes a hydraulic piston-and-cylinder unit interconnecting a frame and a tongue assembly thereof. A movable-deck trailer with a deck adapted for raising to the height of a loading dock includes hydraulic cylinders for raising and lowering same with respect to a frame.

  • Patent number: 5306113
Abstract: An improved fold out ramp system apparatus for a flat bed trailer includes a tapered tail end extending rearwardly from the trailer; at least one transition ramp having a front end pivotally secured to the trailer in close proximity to the juncture between the tapered tail end and the trailer; a clamping mechanism for selectively clamping the transition ramp in either an elevated configuration or a sloping configuration; and a tail ramp pivotally secured to a rear end of each of the transition ramps in end-to-end relationship. A brace pivotally connected to the tapered tail end is releasably connectable to the tail ramp to form a blocking configuration. A leaf spring having one end fixedly secured to the trailer is adapted to urge the transition ramp rear end upwardly to counter the weight thereof. Similarly, a torsional spring is adapted to urge the tail ramp free end upwardly relative to the transition ramp in order to counter the weight of the tail ramp.
