Abstract: A process for producing vinyl chloride containing copolymers includes batch copolymerising in an emulsion polymerisation process, a mixture comprising vinyl chloride monomer (A) and a comonomer (B), wherein a weight ratio of A:B added to the polymerisation process is greater than 10:1 and the corresponding copolymer comprises less than 10 wt % comonomers. The comonomer (B) is added continuously over at least 50% of the reaction time and/or in multiple additions. After the reaction time, the temperature of the reaction mixture is increased and unreacted vinyl chloride is stripped over a period of at least 10 minutes, followed by recovering the vinyl chloride containing copolymer. The present invention also provides a vinyl chloride-n-butyl acrylate copolymer, use of said copolymer in PVC products, and a PVC product comprising a vinyl chloride-n-butyl acrylate copolymer.
