Abstract: A silicone oil-in-water emulsion containing a linear noncrosslinked silicone copolymer is prepared by polymerizing an OH endblocked polydimethylsiloxane monomer with an amine functional trialkoxysilane monomer in the presence of a metal catalyst. However, the polymerization is interrupted by the emulsification of this copolymer, and a carboxylic anhydride is added prior to the emulsification. The resulting emulsions are particularly useful in most personal care applications, and they also have value in textile fiber treatment, leather lubrication, fabric softening, as release agents, in water based coatings, for oil drag reduction, lubrication, and for the facilitation of cutting of cellulose materials.

Abstract: Described is a method of making a silicone in water emulsion. The method comprises mixing (I) a composition containing at least one polysiloxane, at least one organosilicon material that reacts with said polysiloxane by a chain extension reaction and a metal containing catalyst for said chain extension reaction, (II) at least one surfactant and (III) water to form a mixture. The mixture is emulsified to form an emulsion which can have a wide variety of silicone volume fractions, a broad range of mono-disperse particle sizes and a wide variety of molecular weight polymers.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for making devices which release active material, e.g. a drug, at a controlled rate, which device comprises a closed container and the active material. The device is made by first making a hollow envelope, e.g. by extrusion or moulding, followed by introducing the active material into the void of the envelope. The device may have a ring or cylindrical form.
