  • Publication number: 20190243016
Abstract: A method of characterizing a subsurface of a region includes preparing a plurality of spectra illustrating a spectral density of passive seismic signals obtained in a vicinity of a surface of the region at one or more points of the region where recordings are made of the passive seismic signals. Each spectrum is prepared from an associated signal representative of a movement. The method also includes determining at least one spectral attribute for each frequency appearing in each spectrum so as to obtain a set of spectral attributes associated with the recordings and with the frequencies. The method further includes organizing the set of spectral attributes in a matrix in which each row is associated with one of the recordings. In addition, the method includes applying a principal component analysis method to the matrix in order to determine principal components and deduce therefrom one or more characteristics of the subsurface.

  • Patent number: 7420879
Abstract: A device for seismic emission in an underground formation comprising one or more vibrators of any type and method for implementing same. According to a preferred embodiment, each vibrator comprises at least one pillar (1) of sensitive elements (of piezoelectric type for example) between two end plates or slabs (2, 3) and a signal generator for applying vibrational signals to the pillar. The pillar (1) is coated with a protective sheath (4) and the vibrator is positioned in a well or cavity (W) and embedded in a mass of a solid coupling material (7) in contact with protective sheath (4) and the two end plates (2, 3) over at least part of each of the respective faces thereof, which provides coupling of the vibrator with the surrounding formation. The vibrators can be buried at intervals in relation to one another in a well. Sequential triggering thereof with selected delays allows reinforcement of the waves emitted by the device in a preferred direction.

  • Patent number: 7388811
Abstract: This invention is a method of separating induced microseismicity signals from seismic signals acquired within active seismic monitoring operations carried out in underground zones under development which has application for monitoring of underground hydrocarbon or fluid storage reservoirs. Seismic records are formed from signals emitted by one or more seismic sources controlled by orthogonal signals. In this case, the signals are processed to separate the respective contributions of the at least one seismic source to the signals received and to reconstruct the seismograms equivalent to those that would be obtained by actuating the at least one seismic source separately.

In a preferred embodiment, each vibrator comprises at least one pillar (1) of sensitive elements (e.g. piezoelectric type) which is disposed between two end plates or horns (2, 3) and a signal generator which applies vibratory signals at the pillar. Said pillar (1) is encased in a protective sleeve (4) and the vibrator is positioned in a pit or cavity (W) and embedded in a mass of solid coupling material (7) which is in contact with the protective sleeve (4) and with the two end plates (2, 3) on at least one part of each of the respective faces thereof and which connects the vibrator to the surrounding formation. Several of such vibrators can be buried at intervals from one another in the pit.
