    Abstract: Apparatus and method for controlling an automobile vehicle starter motor. The apparatus includes a control unit for controlling the supply of power to the starter motor, a means for providing protection functions, and a means to detect a signal to disable the protection functions. The apparatus includes a means for generating a signal to disable the protective functions, such as during testing of the starter motor. The protective functions include detecting malfunctions and cutting off the supply of power to the starter motor if a malfunction is detected.
