  • Patent number: 7296437
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for separating air by cryogenic distillation. The apparatus has a medium pressure column thermally coupled to a low pressure column. Compressed and purified air is cooled to cryogenic temperature in an exchanger, and sent at least partly to the medium pressure column. Streams enriched in oxygen and nitrogen are sent from the medium pressure column to the low pressure column and, streams enriched in nitrogen and oxygen are removed from the low pressure.

  • Publication number: 20070101763
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the provision of gas under pressure, by vaporisation of a cryogenic liquid from at least two cryogenic separation devices (A, B, C, D). Each device comprises a heat exchanger (1) and a system of columns (2, 3). In a first mode of operation, a cryogenic liquid is withdrawn from the columns in each cryogenic separation device, at least a part of which is pressurised (7, 8) to give a pressurised cryogenic liquid (9) and at least a part of the cryogenic liquid under pressure is vaporised in the heat exchanger (1) to give a part of gas under pressure (10). A cryogenic liquid is sent (6) from the cryogenic separation device to a common store (12) and at least one liquid (28A, 28B, 28C, 28D) coming from the store is vaporised in the exchange line (1) in at least one of the cryogenic separation devices.

  • Publication number: 20060123844
Abstract: Air is compressed in an air compressor to produce a stream of compressed air, wherein at least part of the stream of compressed air is sent from the compressor to an air separation unit. The air separation unit produces a fluid enriched in a component of air, wherein the fluid is sent to a first unit in which an exothermic process takes place. The heat generated by the exothermic process is used to produce steam. At least part of this steam is sent to a steam turbine, where the work generated by the steam turbine is used to power at least the air compressor, and a product of the air separation unit is sent to a further unit in which at least one additional process takes place.

  • Publication number: 20040244416
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for separating air by cryogenic distillation using an apparatus comprising a medium pressure column (9) and a low pressure column (11) thermally communicating, which consists in cooling an amount of compressed and purified air V in an exchange line (10) to a cryogenic temperature and conveying at least part of it to the medium pressure column, conveying oxygen- and nitrogen-enriched flows (LR, LP) from the medium pressure column to the low pressure column and drawing nitrogen- and oxygen-enriched flows (35, 23) from the low pressure column. The invention is characterized in that the medium pressure column operates between 6 and 9 bar abs and the ratio between the total amount of air V entering the exchange line and the total volume of the exchange line ranges between 3000 and 6000 Nm3/h/m3.
