  • Patent number: 4679337
Abstract: The machine comprises a vibrator (26) for applying vibratory forces, and a member (30) for applying non-vibratory forces to a vibratory tool carrier (52) to which is removably attached a working tool, e.g. a bucket (14). The vibrator includes an eccentric (50) and is driven by a drive (36-38). The tool carrier incorporates a first mounting (at 50) for its connection to the vibrator and a second mounting (34) for its connection to the member. The second mounting enables reciprocation of the tool carrier at the point of its attachment to the second mounting when the vibrator is in operation. The first and second mountings are spaced from each other in the direction of the reciprocation.

  • Patent number: 4592696
Abstract: In a material working (e.g. penetrating, loading, compacting) machine the power and machine weight needed to achieve a given performance can be reduced by making one (50) of two pivots (34, 50) at which a working implement such as a bucket 14 is supported an eccentric pivot and driving it by means of a motor (36). The circular vibration of the bucket at pivot (50) combined with arcuate vibration which results and is permitted at pivot (34) by means of link (30), causes the working portion namely bucket teeth (56), to vibrate on a closed elongate curved path 58. This improves penetration and loading performance of the bucket without requiring excessive power to generate the vibrations.

  • Patent number: 4231678
Abstract: Road surfacing machine having a front support (e.g. wheels) and a rear support (e.g. a rotatable roller) on which it can move along a road to be surfaced thereby. The body of the machine, which includes a hopper for storing material to be laid and an outlet for discharging it, is supported on the supports. Metering means (e.g. a screed plate) is positioned between the supports and serves to form a layer of selected thickness and shape of the said material on the road base. Bearing means (e.g. horizontal pivots) enable free relative angular movement between the front support on the one side and the metering means and a rear support on the other side about a longitudinal axis and about a transverse axis. Also a road surfacing machine having a front support, a hopper and a screed member, and including profiling means which comprise means for indicating the height and means for indicating the angle of inclination of the screed member.
