  • Patent number: 4823660
Abstract: A device and method for cutting labels from a strip of heat meltable material comprises a frame, a die plate mounted for resilient movement on the frame and a punch mounted for movement toward and away from the die plate. The punch carries a cutting edge which cooperates with a die surface of the die plate to cut a label. A reciprocating device includes a spring loaded plunger which moves the die plate with its cutting edge into contact with the die surface of the die plate. The die plate is spring mounted to the frame so that excess movement of the punch toward the die plate is absorbed by the springs of the die plate. Any additional excess movement is absorbed by the spring loaded plunger. The die plate may also be provided with a hole conforming substantially to the outer contour of the label. The edge follows the contour of the hole but it is dimensioned slightly larger than the hole so that a margin of die surface remains around the hole against which the cutting edge operates.

  • Patent number: 4743333
Abstract: A device for connecting two layers of heat meltable material together comprises a toothed member which can be heated and pressed against a ribbed member with the layers of material therebetween. The toothed member includes three rows of teeth with gaps between adjacent teeth. Each row is separated by a gap thickness and the teeth have preferred widths. Thicknesses and lengths. The ribbed member has a pair of ribs that defines three grooves for receiving the three rows of teeth. Clearance is provided between the teeth and ribs while the teeth are bevelled to produce perforations in the heat meltable layers while firmly sealing the layers together around a periphery of each perforation.

  • Patent number: 4416176
Abstract: A cutter assembly for cutting strip material into individual lengths particularly for cutting labels which include cloth material having polyester fibers which must be cut while operating with a heated blade comprises a fixed support with a fixed blade having a first side secured to the support and an opposite second side and having a top cutting edge over which the strip material to be cut is fed. A movable member is movable upwardly and downwardly relative to the fixed blade and carries vertically spaced apart pintles to laterally spaced locations which provide guideways at opposite sides of a movable blade assembly. The movable blade assembly includes a block portion having a guide pintle which extends between respective two pintles on each side thereof so as to prevent vertical movement of the block but permit its lateral displacement toward and away from the associated movable member.
