  • Patent number: 4942368
Abstract: In an amplifier system for a cable-TV converter, the amplifier system having an amplifier having a transistor with a base connected to an input port of the amplifier system that provides a video IF signal and a collector for connection to an output port of the amplifier system, a variable gain device is connected between the collector of the transistor and the output port for varying the gain therebetween. A variable negative feedback device forms a closed loop between the collector and the base of the transistor for varying negative feedback of the variable negative feedback device inversely with the gain of the variable gain device. An impedance matching device is connected between the variable gain device and the output port for maintaining a substantially constant output impedance at the output port.

  • Patent number: 4612571
Abstract: A constant impedance (Z) bandswitched input filter for use in a wideband signal receiver includes a low pass filter, a high pass filter and a bandpass filter for reducing intermodulation distortion as well as for providing a flat input impedance characteristic. The bandpass filter resonates at the crossover frequency between the low and high pass filters for minimizing insertion loss while maintaining a constant termination impedance across the entire input signal bandwidth to reduce the input standing wave ratio (VSWR). Switching means are provided for coupling the high and low pass filters as well as the bandpass filter in circuit depending upon the frequency band tuned to. The constant Z bandswitched input filter is particularly adapted for use in a wide band cable television (CATV) system for substantially reducing intermodulation distortion and signal reflections arising from impedance mismatches, but has application in any cable operated multichannel communications system.

  • Patent number: 4520507
Abstract: A low noise frequency converter particularly adapted for the large bandwidth environment encountered in extended bandwidth cable television (CATV) systems is disclosed. The CATV converter includes an upconverter/downconverter combination for translating the received RF signal to an intermediate frequency (IF) carrier signal. A first IF signal is generated by heterodyning the received RF signal with the output of a voltage controlled oscillator in a first double balanced mixer. The upconverted signal thus produced is then mixed in a second double balanced mixer with the reference output of a second local oscillator to provide a fixed, downconverted second IF carrier signal. The upconverter portion of the CATV converter includes a pin diode attenuator between an RF amplifier and the first double balanced mixer.

  • Patent number: 4380827
Abstract: An oscillator is described for use in the tuner of a television receiver which is tuned to a selected channel by a variable tuning voltage. The oscillator provides a higher than conventional power output at relatively low channel numbers by virtue of circuitry which changes the oscillator's operating current in response to the tuning voltage reaching a predetermined value. That predetermined value is selected to correspond to a relatively low channel number at which the power output of a conventional oscillator begins to decline.

  • Patent number: 4380828
Abstract: A UHF television receiver tuner comprises a varactor tuned circuit coupled to an input electrode of a field effect transistor mixer through a serially connected RF coupling capacitor. A local oscillator signal is coupled to the input electrode of the field effect transistor mixer through an inductive loop whose inductance value is chosen such that proper impedance matching over the UHF band is achieved.
