  • Patent number: 8775790
Abstract: A method includes receiving a data message, from a first embedded node, in a first end point device. The first data message is addressed to a second embedded node. The method also includes encrypting the first data message to produce an encrypted data message, where the encryption is transparent to the first embedded node. The method further includes transmitting the encrypted data message to a second end point device. An apparatus includes a plurality of embedded node ports each configured to communicate with an embedded node. The apparatus also includes an encrypted communications link port configured to communicate with an end point device. The apparatus further includes a controller connected to communicate with the embedded node ports and the encrypted communications link port. In addition, the apparatus includes a storage connected to be read from and written to by the controller.

  • Patent number: 8542574
Abstract: A method includes performing one or more tests at a network component. The network component is capable of transmitting frames of information in a network. The network component is also capable of enabling and disabling the transmitting of frames. The method also includes detecting a failure of at least one of the one or more tests. In addition, the method includes at least one of not enabling the transmitting of frames by the network component and disabling the transmitting of frames by the network component in response to the detected failure. As an example, the one or more tests may be performed in response to the network component powering on. The network component may be initially disabled from transmitting the frames, and the transmitting of frames is not enabled in response to the detected failure.

  • Publication number: 20070237088
Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for network traffic monitoring for a network are disclosed. The exemplary device may include a connection to a physical media and a connection to a media access controller of the Ethernet network. The exemplary device may have a sensor for identifying a disconnect in the local Ethernet network; a memory for storing media access controller addresses on the Ethernet network; and an access controller that broadcasts packets to media access controller addresses stored in memory and erases the access controller addresses in memory when the sensor identifies a disconnect. The access controller may also prevent broadcasts of packets by the media access controller to the media access controller addresses not stored in the memory. The device may also have a filter for identifying packets of one or more ports of the Ethernet network. The memory may store ports of the Ethernet network.

  • Publication number: 20070041313
Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for managing communications traffic on a fault tolerant network are disclosed. The exemplary system may include a fault tolerant network with at least two nodes and at least two channels of communication. Each channel of communication is in communication with each of the two nodes. Each node selectively communicates on one of the plurality of channels. A switch is in communication with the at least two channels. The switch receives network traffic and terminates network traffic on one or more of the channels. The termination of network traffic causes a fault tolerance manager to reroute network traffic on one of the two communication channels based on received network traffic.
