  • Patent number: 4954349
Abstract: Solid oral composition for the treatment or prophylaxis of potassium and magnesium deficiency in skeletal and cardiac muscle containing about 3 to about 50 milliequivalent bioavailable potassium, about 0.1 to about 25 milliequivalent bioavailable magnesium, and a milliequivalent ratio of potassium to magnesium between about 2:1 and about 14:1, where the potassium is in a controlled release form, and methods of treating or preventing potassium and magnesium deficiency by oral administration of such compositions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 17, 1989
Date of Patent: September 4, 1990
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation

  • Patent number: 4543261
Abstract: Salts and low molecular weight organic compounds are more efficiently separated from aqueous liquids by passing the liquid downwardly through a gel-type strong acid cation exchange resin, and eluting the resin. In a preferred embodiment, animal wastes and/or cheese whey are separated into usable components by removing insoluble organic material, then removing soluble proteins and/or enzymes by ion exchange with a macroporous weak base anion exchange resin, and then separating salts and nonionic organic compounds as above.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 2, 1984
Date of Patent: September 24, 1985
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Zita T. K. Harmon, Frederick J. Dechow
  • Patent number: 4454257
Abstract: Cured resins having excellent thermal and abrasion resistance and improved processability are provided by the addition polymerization of a compound having isocyanurate moieties, imide and/or amic acid moieties and ethylenically unsaturated moieties. An example of such a compound is the reaction product of an unsaturated cyclic anhydride such as maleic anhydride, an organic polyisocyanate such as a polymeric methylene phenyl polyisocyanate and water.

  • Patent number: 4110274
Abstract: Cellular resin bodies having apparent density less than about 30 pounds per cubic foot, where the resin has highly crosslinked three-dimensional ethylenic polymer structure having amic acid groups and/or cyclic imide linkages, are made by reaction of polyisocyanates with certain polymerizable ethylenically unsatured dicarboxylic acid cyclic anhydrides illustrated by maleic anhydride, and water. Mixture of the reactants and heating cause chemical interaction, evolution of carbon dioxide, ethylenic polymerization of intermediate reaction product, crosslinking, foaming and hardening of the resin. Cell formation is caused by carbon dioxide and water vapor in the resin reaction product. Resin foam products are infusible and insoluble in usual solvents and resist ignition and burning in air.
