Patent number: 4823978Abstract: A plastic resin hole plug to fill a hole in a flat thin panel comprises a one-piece unitary injection-molded plastic member having a top closure wall whose bottom surface has a flat edge which rests on the panel. In one embodiment the plug has a cruciform shank portion which extends from the top closure wall portion, the shank portion having a plurality of ribs which retain the plug in the hole. In another embodiment the shank has an elongated hollow cavity and a flat-sided chisel-like point.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1987Date of Patent: April 25, 1989Assignee: Simmons Fastener CorporationInventor: Frederick J. Patent number: 4755090Abstract: A fastener, particularly adapted to retain a screw, comprises a sheet metal body member. A double-sided adhesive tape may be adhered to one face of the metal member. The metal member is a unitary member having a top flexible leaf portion with a screw impression to receive and retain a screw, a "U" shaped connecting portion, a bottom plate portion having a clearance hole to guide the screw, and a cone-shaped ring-like raised portion around the clearance hole. The cone portion may telescope into the screw impression dome to reinforce the dome. Three tabs project from the bottom face of the bottom leaf and project through the tape.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1987Date of Patent: July 5, 1988Assignee: Simmons Fastener CorporationInventors: Frederick J. Macfee, Jr., Frederick J. Pufpaff

Patent number: 4746151Abstract: A metal industrial fastener comprises a keeper plate having a hook-like keeper lip attached to one panel and a turn hasp member attached to another panel, which turn member may be recessed in a dish. The turn member has a spring which spring-loads a spring-back hook member, a base member fixed in a dish to a panel, a slide member which telescopically slides in the base member, and a turning means to rotate an eccentric rivet which cam-operates the slide member.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1987Date of Patent: May 24, 1988Assignee: Simmons Fastener CorporationInventors: Cuyler Hoen, Frederick J. Pufpaff

Patent number: 4727629Abstract: A fastener removably clamps the edges of two panels each having a hole therethrough. The fastener includes a hinge pin, about which the fastener body pivots. To clamp the panels, the hinge pin is extended through the holes in both panels to align the panels and then the fastener body is pivoted so that its top flange portion lies on one panel and its bottom flange portion lies on the other panel, thereby clamping the panels between the two flange portions of the fastener.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1987Date of Patent: March 1, 1988Assignee: Simmons Fastener CorporationInventors: Cuyler Hoen, Frederick J. Pufpaff

Patent number: 4647263Abstract: A nut plate fastener, particularly adapted to retain a screw and to seal a hole in a panel having foamed-in-place insulation, comprises a sheet metal body member and a double-sided adhesive tape adhered to one face of the metal member. The metal member is a unitary member having a top leaf with a screw impression to receive and retain a screw, a "U" shaped connecting portion, and a bottom leaf having a clearance hole to guide the screw. As a safety feature, when there is high torque on the screw, a ring-like raised portion around the clearance hole may telescope into the screw impression dome to reinforce the dome. Three tabs project from the bottom face of the bottom leaf and project through the tape.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1985Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Assignee: Simmons Fastener CorporationInventors: Frederick J. Macfee, Jr., Frederick J. Pufpaff

Patent number: 4583654Abstract: A plastic resin hole plug to fill a hole in a flat thin panel comprises a one-piece unitary injection-molded plastic member having a top dome closure wall whose bottom surface has a flat ledge which rests on the panel and an undercut ring. The plug has a tubular shank portion which extends from the top closure wall portion and whose outer face retains the plug in the hole. The shank's outer face has a first circumferential band canted inwardly and a second circumferential band joined thereto which is canted outwardly. At least one, and preferably two, side flats are formed on the shank portion, which flats flex inward when the plug is inserted into the hole.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1985Date of Patent: April 22, 1986Assignee: Simmons Fastener CorporationInventors: Frederick J. Pufpaff, John M. Maloney

Patent number: 4522436Abstract: A fastener to removably secure two panels consists of a spring-loaded toggle latch (catch unit) on one panel and a keeper plate (strike) with a keeper lip on the other panel. The toggle latch comprises a pivot bracket with a flat base plate and opposite upstanding side ears, a pivotable operating lever (handle) and a pivotable hasp member (draw bar) having a downwardly turned lip at its free end to engage the keeper lip. The three members of the toggle latch are solely joined by left and right single-turn coiled torsion springs which spring-load the hasp member. In one embodiment the flat base plate of the pivot bracket has two openings, each with a series of staggered indentations forming pairs of indentations, which indented pairs are differently spaced from the edge of its panel, to permit adjustable mounting of the pivot bracket on its panel.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1983Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Simmons Fastener CorporationInventors: Cuyler Hoen, Frederick J. Pufpaff
