  • Patent number: 6736086
Abstract: The present invention is a temperature measuring device for insertion into food which audibly signals the user when the temperature of the food reaches a predetermined level. The stem of the device contains a coiled temperature sensitive bi-metallic spring. As the internal temperature of the substance increases, the temperature sensing material slowly rotates, causing a pointer and triggering disk to rotate. When the rotation achieves a predetermined position, a pre-wound coil spring is permitted to engage a drive gear which operates a hammer device so as to provide an audible signal. Thus, the user is audibly alerted when the internal temperature of the substance reaches the desired threshold level.

  • Patent number: 6431110
Abstract: The present invention is a temperature measuring device for insertion into food which audibly signals the user when the temperature of the food reaches a predetermined level. The stem of the device contains a temperature sensitive spring in bi-metallic communication. As the internal temperature of the substance increases, the temperature sensing material and spring slowly rise causing the disk to rotate back to its original position. When the original position is reached, the actuation pin on the temperature pointer activates a series of levers which release a manually pre-wound coil spring. The unwinding of the coil spring activates a large gear which then activates a small gear causing a clapper with a plurality of wings to spin in circles and repeatedly ring a bell. Thus, the user is audibly alerted when the internal temperature of the substance reaches the desired threshold level.

  • Patent number: 5532525
Abstract: A secondary power system eliminates the need for an automatic transfer switch and permits simultaneous supply from different sources. Primary power is rectified and connected to a DC bus, an AC generator has its output rectified and connected to the DC bus, and a storage battery is also connected to the DC bus. Current on the DC bus is inverted to AC to provide an uninterrupted power supply. The system is connected to a household electrical system by a power distribution panel which can be installed in a home prior to the secondary power system and can facilitate installation of the secondary system. The distribution panel can selectively bypass the secondary system and can disconnect non-vital loads when primary power is not available. The generator is powered by an engine using gasoline, natural gas or water, which can also power other systems, such as air conditioning, with exhaust heat or rotary motion.

  • Patent number: 4701068
Abstract: A shaft assembly (11) having a spline (16) with an anti-backlash device operable due to centrifugal force to engage both sides of internal spline teeth during rotation. The spline (16) includes a main force transmitting portion (18) and a moveable spline sleeve (22) which during operation engages the side of teeth opposite the side engaged by the main force transmitting spline. Spline sleeve (22) rides on helix member to move slightly circumferentially as it is moved axially by a centrifugal force actuated member. A bar which is pinned to the spline (16) has one end which moves radially outward due to centrifugal force as the spline (16) is rotated and another end which engages and moves the spline sleeve (22) axially. When the spline sleeve (22) is moved, the splined end on the shaft assembly (11) is locked or wedged into engagement with the mating internal spline (14).
