  • Publication number: 20040180098
Abstract: Improved powder coatings exhibit enhanced resistance to bacterial and fungal attack, while possessing excellent toughness, appearance, corrosion resistance, durability, processability, and ease of application. The coating is comprised of anti-microbial agents that are homogeneously dispersed within the powder or impact fused to powder particles or both. An article may be coated with a thermoset thermoplastic, or radiation curable powder, which may be applied by electrostatic spray or fluidized bed or by thermal or flame spray.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 24, 2004
    Publication date: September 16, 2004
Inventors: Owen H. Decker, Michael A. Sparks, Jeffrey R. Hagerlin, Frederick L. Cummings, Peter Gottschling

  • Patent number: 6432416
Abstract: Improved powder coatings exhibit enhanced resistance to bacterial and fungal attack, while possessing excellent toughness, appearance, corrosion resistance, durability, processability, and ease of application. The coating is comprised of anti-microbial agents melt-processed into the matrices of coating powders or bonded to coating powders. An article may be coated with a thermoset or thermoplastic powder that may be applied by electrostatic spray or fluidized bed or by thermal or flame spray.

  • Patent number: 6093407
Abstract: Improved powder coatings exhibit enhanced resistance to bacterial and fungal attack, while possessing excellent toughness, appearance, corrosion resistance, durability, processability, and ease of application. The coating is comprised of anti-microbial agents melt-processed into the matrices of powder coatings. An article may be coated with a thermoset or thermoplastic powder which may be applied by electrostatic spray, by dipping it into a fluidized bed (or electrostatically charging it and then dipping it into the fluidized bed), or by thermal or flame spray.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 2, 1998
Date of Patent: July 25, 2000
Assignee: DuPont Powder Coatings USA, Inc.
Inventors: Frederick L. Cummings, Peter Gottschling, Jeffrey R. Hagerlin
  • Patent number: 4980113
Abstract: Unsaturated polyester resin coating powder composition consisting essentially of at least one unsaturated polyester resin; at least one copolymerizable second resin; and an initiator which comprises 1,1'-di(t-butylperoxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcylcohexane (AE), or which contains a small proportion of a fast initiator and a relatively large proportion of a slow initiator as defined herein. Initiator AE has been found to work better as a single initiator than other initiators previously employed in in-mold powder coating formulations. The combination of initiators works better than either one alone, and better than any of the few moderate rate initiators available.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 13, 1989
Date of Patent: December 25, 1990
    Assignee: Morton International, Inc.
Inventors: Frederick L. Cummings, Glenn D. Correll
