  • Patent number: 4895045
Abstract: A camshaft arrangement including a pair of cams (7, 8 ) mounted on the same camshaft (1) with at least one of the cams rotatable relative to the camshaft (17) and with the cams (7, 8) maintained at a given axial spacing on the camshaft (1), a differential mechanism (a, b, c, d) coupling the two cams (7, 8) together for rotation about the camshaft axis with a selected relative angular phase, and phase adjusting means (14, 15) for acting on the differential mechanism (a, b, c, d) to effect a relative rotation of the cams (7, 8) to adjust the selected angular phase of the cams (7, 8) and thereafter to retain the cams in the adjusted position.

  • Patent number: 4862842
Abstract: An arrangement for converting rotary motion of a camshaft into linear motion of a reciprocable valve employs a reciprocable cam which is rotatable with the camshaft but is radially displaceable relative to the camshaft which extends through a slot-shaped aperture in the reciprocable cam. The profile of the reciprocable cam is held in engagement with a fixed reference roller and the bucket of valve is held in engagement with output rings on the cam. In the course of rotation of the camshaft, the cam lobe causes radial displacement of the cam on the camshaft with attendant movement of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4856370
Abstract: An assembly capable of varying the relative phase of rotation between a driving sprocket wheel and a camshaft comprises a carrier fixed to the sprocket wheel and carrying compound idler bevel gears including inner idler gears which mesh with a bevel gear fixed to the camshaft to impart rotation to the camshaft and including outer idler gears which mesh with a ring gear carried by a sleeve shaft which is adjustable in angular position by a worm gear and a worm-wheel arrangement to vary the phase of the camshaft rotation relative to the phase of the sprocket wheel rotation.

  • Patent number: 4838114
Abstract: The invention is a poppet valve arrangement with a follower member rotatable with a drive shaft about the axis of rotation of the shaft. The follower member is rotatable within a hollow cam member having an internal cam profile with which the follower member is held in contact. Either the follower member or the cam member is capable of limited linear movement in a direction transverse to the axis of rotation of the shaft, and either of the follower member or the cam member is coupled to the poppet valve so that rotation of the shaft is translated into movement of either the follower member or the cam member and thereby into linear movement of the poppet valve.

  • Patent number: 4802376
Abstract: A device for impulsively varying the timing of the rotation of a camshaft (1) relative to a driving sprocket wheel (14) mounted on a stubaxle (102) comprises followers (119,110) rotatable with respective follower shafts (103,104) mounted on the sprocket wheel (14) for rotation about axes parallel to the axis of rotation of the sprocket wheel and rotatable with the sprocket wheel; the follower shafts carrying planet gears (106,108) operative to transmit rotational movement in phase from the sprocket wheel to the camshaft via sun gear (107); and, an annular cam (117), whose angular position is adjustable by means of a worm wheel (112) and worm (111) arrangement, has an internal profile with which the followers (119,110) are held in engagement and which imparts periodic rotational movement to the follower shafts to carry the phase of the movement transmitted to the camshaft in a pulsed fashion.
