  • Publication number: 20030061354
Abstract: A call is set up between a subscriber premises and a call center. The subscriber premises includes a personal computer and a telephone. A call set up request is received from a gateway responsive to the personal computer of the subscriber premises. A query is sent to the call center. An availability reply is received from the call center, and a call set up instruction is prepared for setting up the call between the telephone of the subscriber premises and the call center. In some cases, an unavailability reply is received from the call center. The time-in-queue until the call center will be available to receive the call is estimated, and a call queue status message is prepared for delivery to the gateway and thence to the subscriber premises.

  • Patent number: 6539086
Abstract: The system and method of the present invention completes at least two calls originating from terminal equipment located at a premises and connected by a point-of-attachment having a single phone number to a public switched telephone network where a dial tone is provided to the premises. Multiple calls are now allowed with an analog interface to the public switched telephone network. At least two calls and control channel are combined into a modulated analog signal having a separate channel for each call and transmitted through a modulation/demodulation device as a modulated analog signal to the public switched telephone network. The modulated analog signal is split into respective calls and control channel. Each call is forwarded to a respective remote device based on the identity information and auxiliary information received through the control channel.

  • Patent number: 6532286
Abstract: The invention discloses a method and system for processing a telephone call to an on-line subscriber, when the subscriber telephone line is busy as a result of the on-line connection. The incoming call is forwarded to a server, where the calling station is given an option to leave a recorded message and particulars of the call (date and time) and calling station (telephone number and caller identification) are stored in a call-back list server. The system sends an alerting message to the data terminal of the on-line subscriber, where an icon, representing calls stored in the call-back list, is displayed to the subscriber. The subscriber may review particulars of calls stored in the call-back list and may return calls while remaining on-line using Internet telephony, or by other means, such as a TAPI interface. The subscriber may also review or retrieve stored messages in the voice-mail server while remaining on-line.

  • Publication number: 20030039341
Abstract: A method of analyzing a menu structure associated with an interactive voice system that supports interactive voice response users is disclosed. A graphical representation of the menu structure is generated and communicated to an on-line user. The graphical representation is used by the on-line user to select graphical menu items corresponding to interactive voice response prompts.

  • Patent number: 6477247
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for placing a phone call when dialing out of the caller's local area. A database resident in a telephone connection mechanism contains the access codes required to place the out-of-local area call. A user input device is utilized by the calling party to retrieve the out-of-area access codes for the called party's telephone from the database. The user input device is also utilized by the calling party to input the called party's local telephone number into the telephone connection mechanism. The telephone connection mechanism automatically combines the local calling number input by the user with the out-of-area access codes retrieved from the database. The telephone connection mechanism then transmits a telephone connection request by utilizing the combined local telephone number and the out-of-area access codes.

  • Patent number: 6456699
Abstract: A computer system and method for analysis and translation of Web on-line menu architectures to Interactive Voice Response (IVR) menu architectures. The system analyzes Uniform Resource Location (URL) links in HyperText Markup Language (HTML) documents that comprise the Web menus and develops corresponding IVR menus. Once the system has developed a validated IVR menu architecture, the system supports both on-line Web users and IVR users with a common set of structured information databases. The system and method also supports analysis and translation of IVR menu architectures to support Web on-line users. The common information databases contain the IVR and Web menu architectures as well as product specifications and prices.

  • Patent number: 6438222
Abstract: The invention discloses a method and system for processing a telephone call to an on-line subscriber, when the subscriber telephone line is busy as a result of the on-line connection. The subscriber sets an on-line state, the state being available-for-incoming-calls or not-available-for-incoming-calls. Once the subscriber sets the on-line state, telephone calls to the subscriber telephone number while the subscriber is on-line are processed according to the on-line state. As examples, if the state is available-for-incoming-calls, the subscriber is notified of the incoming call and the call is processed according to the subscriber's instructions. If the state is not-available-for-incoming-calls, messaging according to the subscriber's preset instructions.

  • Publication number: 20020090064
Abstract: A system and method is provided for providing call subject information to a destination device. A call subject platform provides a selection menu to an originating device to receive call subject information. If call subject information is received at the call subject platform from the originating device, then the call subject platform sends a summary of the call subject information to the destination device.

  • Patent number: 6400723
Abstract: An integrated sub-rate multiplexing system and method optimizes use of transmission bandwidth in integrated networks. For example, transmission capacity of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is assigned to various traffic types according to the instantaneous needs, illustratively in an enhanced (T1, T2)-environment. When speech and data packets compete for bandwidth, under certain conditions portions of data are concatenated to the voice segment, increasing bandwidth efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6400808
Abstract: A system and method is provided for providing call subject information to a called party. A call subject platform receives a call from a calling party. The call subject platform prompts the calling party to provide call subject information. If call subject information is received at the call subject platform from the calling party, then the call subject platform sends at least part of the call subject information to the called party. The call subject platform then determines if the called party desires to communicate with the calling party.

  • Patent number: 6362840
Abstract: A method and system for presenting an icon on a computer graphic display, the icon being responsive to the type of link area on the computer graphic display. The link area on the computer graphic display is described by link instructions embedded in display format instructions, such as HTML format documents. The visually representative icon is displayed when a cursor, such as that controlled by a mouse, is positioned over the link area. The link instructions support services types such as telephone services, facsimile services, financial services, video services, help services and game services. The link instructions for the new services are described in new URL types or through scripting tools such as Active-X or JAVA scripts. The icons provide a visual representation of the service such as a telephone for telephone services; a dollar sign for financial services; or a video screen for video services.
