Abstract: A shaving system includes a platform member with a support surface that has a plurality of apertures therein and guard structure integral therewith and disposed forwardly of the support surface, a cap member with a plurality of post elements for disposition in the apertures in the support structure, a primary blade member having a planar body and a cutting edge, a secondary blade member having a planar body and a cutting edge, each blade member having a plurality of apertures and at least two of the apertures having spaced locating surfaces for positioning engagement with the post elements, and a plurality of discrete spacer members disposed on the post elements and between the primary and secondary blade members. The post elements extend through the apertures in the blade members, the spacers and the platform member and preferably are mechanically deformed to secure the primary and secondary blade members with their cutting edges in spaced parallel relation in a fixed shaving geometry.

The blade structure has an aperture with an annular sharpened shaving edge that is defined by main facet portions that converge at an angle of less than 40.degree., and supplemental facet portions that are extensions of the main facet portions and converge at an included angle of less than 60.degree. to define an annular ultimate tip portion. The annular ultimate tip of the sharpened edge defines a shaving plane and the bisector of the included angle defined by the supplemental facets is disposed at an angle (shaving angle) in the range of 15.degree.-35.degree. to the shaving plane.

Blade structure, carried by the body structure rearwardly of the fixed skin-engaging structure, has a cutting edge extending along the length of the body structure, and movable guard structure is carried by the body structure between and adjacent to the fixed skin-engaging structure and the cutting edge of the blade structure. The movable guard structure includes a series of skin-tensioning crest portions disposed for skin-engagement between and adjacent to the fixed skin-engaging structure and the cutting edge. The movable guard structure is positioned in the body structure in engagement with biasing structure for dynamic movement of the movable guard structure relative to the fixed skin-engaging structure against the biasing structure as guided by the guide structure in the course of shaving.
