Publication number: 20080067247Abstract: A credit card size authentication card is manufactured using innovative sensor technology, processor technology, power generation and storage, panel display and integration technology. The front of the card has a data display and an exposed, biometric sensor. Internally the card has one or more flex boards that carry low profile, surface-mounted electronic components including a processor that provides the control functions and mathematical calculations to generate a series of random personal identification numbers (PINs) in the display. The random PINs are derived from a biometric seed number obtained during initialization of the card by a discrete user. The electronic circuitry controlling and interconnecting the processor, the sensor and the display is powered by a power system including a thin film battery, a thin film power generator and a low profile power regulator. The thin film power generator preferably comprises a thin film solar collector or RF antenna circuit for energy harvesting.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2007Publication date: March 20, 2008Inventors: Travis M. Patent number: 6856767Abstract: The present invention provides an optical signal quality selection system for optimizing the quality of information transmission. The system splits an incoming optical signal into two equal signals. The split signals are evaluated in optical performance monitors, transmitting an electrical output message to a signal selector relating to the quality of the respective signal. A second electrical message is sent from the optical performance generator to an alarm indicator signal generator, which sends an optical signal to the signal selector to drop the one of the split signals and transmit the non-dropped split signal. An unequipped optical signal from an optical idle signal generator is triggered if no active optical signal is being transmitted.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2001Date of Patent: February 15, 2005Assignee: Alphion CorporationInventors: Mohammad Laham, Raj Acharya, Roman Antosik, Jayantha Das, Bharat Dave, Chinnabbu Ekambaram, Khem Gandhi, Frank Hujber, David Lowe, Frederick Renner, Jiten Sarathy, Ronald Simprini, Boris Stefanov, Tan Thai, Ravi Vora

Publication number: 20020133734Abstract: A novel solution to fast network restoration is provided. In a network node, dedicated hardware elements are utilized to implement restoration, and these elements are linked via a specialized high speed bus. Moreover, the incoming and outgoing optical signals to each input/output port are continually monitored and their status communicated to such dedicated hardware via the high-speed bus. This provides a complete snapshot in virtually real time of the state of each input port on the node, and the switch map specifying the inter portal connections, to the dedicated control and restoration hardware. The specialized hardware detects trouble conditions and reconfigures the switching fabric. The invention enables a very fast and efficient control loop between the I/O ports, switch fabrics, and controllers.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 17, 2001Publication date: September 19, 2002Inventors: Jithamithra Sarathy, Raj Acharya, Roman Antosik, Jayanta Das, Bharat Dave, Chinnabbu Ekambaram, Khem Gandhi, Frank Hujber, Mohammad Laham, Frederick Renner, Ronald Simprini, Boris Stefanov, Tan B. Publication number: 20020041409Abstract: In a maintenance system for a switch fabric in an optical switching network, a test signal is generated and multiplexed with the incoming traffic signal to form a composite signal. The composite signal is transmitted through the switch fabric via the traffic channel and then demultiplexed back into the traffic signal and the test signal, both of which are monitored by one or optical performance monitors. Thus, if the traffic signal is found to be defective, it is easy to determine whether the cause is the switch fabric or the incoming optical traffic signal that was already bad before entering the switch fabric.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2001Publication date: April 11, 2002Inventors: Mohammad Laham, Raj Acharya, Roman Antosik, Jayanta Das, Khem Gandhi, Bharat Dave, Jithamithra Sarathy, Ronald Simprini, Chinnabbu Ekambaram, Frank Hujber, Boris Stefanov, Frederick Renner, Tan B. Patent number: 4641027Abstract: Typical apparatus as shown in FIGS. 1 and 12 for indicating the relative positions in a given direction between a reference point (24,59) and a test point (29,68) spaced therefrom and movable relative thereto is useful for measurement of the magnitude and direction of static or dynamic torque in a shaft (8). Overlapping transparent reference (20,60) and test surfaces (25,61), either parallel disks (60,61) or coaxial cylinders (20,25) each having a relevant portion covered with a plurality of equally spaced lines oriented predominantly normal to the given direction and at an angle to each other, produce moire fringes (30) when illuminated (14,15). One of the surfaces (25,61), being flexible, is connected to the shaft (8) so as to flex in response to torque between the reference point (24,59) and the test point (29,68), causing a change in the angle between the lines on the two surfaces (20,25;60,61), and thus of the spacing (D) (FIG.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1984Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: G. An electrical insulating layer disposed adjacent the piezoelectric energizing layer. A second piezoelectric sensing layer is disposed adjacent the insulating layer, and has conducting surfaces disposed on opposite surfaces thereof. Patent number: 4404559Abstract: A rotative coupling allows the inductive transmission of power and the transmission of informational signals between a stationary part and a hollow, rotating part. The informational signals are transmitted on a modulated beam of light passing through and along the axis of rotation of the hollow, rotative part. The power is transmitted by induction from a coil on the stationary part to a coil on the rotative part, both coils being positioned within stationary core means and the rotative core means, which combine to establish a continuous flux path around the coils.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1981Date of Patent: September 13, 1983Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventor: G.
