Abstract: An LED lamp includes a frame, a power circuit, a driver circuit coupled with the power circuit, an optical member comprising a reflective surface and a lower surface, the reflective surface defining an optical cavity, a light source support member defining a first aperture, and a light source comprising a plurality of LED dies coupled to and driven by the driver circuit. The light source support member is positioned proximate to the lower surface and generally conforms to a shape of the lower surface forming a gap therebetween defined as a second aperture. Additionally, the light source support member is configured to carry the light source in an orientation such that light emitted by the plurality of LEDs is incident upon the reflective surface. Furthermore, the reflective surface is configured to reflect light incident thereupon in the direction of at least one of the first aperture and the second aperture.

  • Publication number: 20140177238
Abstract: An electrical device and method are presented, the device having an enclosure defining an interior volume sealed from the environment and an electronic lighting apparatus, which may include a heat generating element such as a light source, a heat sink, and a fluid flow generator. The heat sink may be positioned partially within the sealed interior volume and adjacent the heat generating element and transfer heat therefrom. The fluid flow generator may create a flow of fluid to transport heat away from the heat sink and to the enclosure. The electronic lighting apparatus may be carried by the enclosure and partially disposed within the interior volume of the enclosure. The electrical device may further include an optic carried by the enclosure that may cooperate with the enclosure to define the sealed interior volume.

  • Patent number: 8761447
Abstract: Provided herein are systems and methods for outdoor lighting, which generally include two or more light sources. One light source is a monochromatic light source producing a light with a peak wavelength of about 580 nm or above. A second light source is a polychromatic light source producing a green-tint white light. During a standby operational mode, a control system maintains the first light source illuminated. The control system, which includes an integrated imaging system, illuminates both the first light source and the second light source when the imaging system identifies a target in an illumination area. Methods of preparing and using such outdoor lighting system are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8760370
Abstract: A lighting system including a plurality of luminaires capable of generating polychromatic light having a dominant wavelength in the visible spectrum and arranged into an array and a computerized device electrically coupled to the plurality of luminaires so as to selectively operate each individual luminaire to produce source light varying with each other and with time. The computerized device operates the luminaire such that each luminaire emits a source light, the source lights combining to form a combined light having selected characteristics. The source lights, when perceived directly, recreate a lighting scenario having varying lighting characteristics.

  • Patent number: 8754832
Abstract: A system and method for accenting regions of a layer including a lighting system including a plurality of light sources operable to emit polychromatic light and a layer having two or more regions configured to diffusively scatter light within a wavelength range while absorbing light not within the wavelength range. The regions may be configured to represent recognizable characters or images, and may form a sequence. The lighting system may highlight the regions individually or simultaneously. The layer may be attachable to a surface and may further include non-highlighted regions. The system may also include appliqués applied to a surface and a cover layer transparent to certain wavelengths of light that the appliqués scatter.

Each of the plurality of luminaires may be operable to emit light having increased spectral opponency, thereby reducing melatonin suppression. The source lights, when perceived directly, recreate a lighting scenario having varying lighting characteristics.
