Abstract: There is provided a tobacco product or a non-tobacco snuff product, including a magnesium carbonate, for conferring pH stability to the product and preventing growth of bacteria and fungi therein. The magnesium carbonate may contain hydroxide, oxide, and crystal water. The amount of magnesium carbonate ranges from 0.01 and 30% by weight of the dry bulk material. The product may be combined with additional pH regulators. The magnesium carbonate significantly increase the pH-stability in snus and non-tobacco snuff at the normal pH-range used in these products. The final product, which may be oral snuff or snus, or any tobacco-free snuff product, may be in particulate form, or shaped in a variety of forms. The product may be an oral product. The product may be packaged in a box, can or canister. Use of a magnesium carbonate for producing the products is also described.

Abstract: Nicotine permeability through the mucous membrane depends on pH, with the uptake improving with higher pH. The invention provides stabilization of basic pH at the surface of the product during oral use thereof, without reducing nicotine mobility within the oral smokeless tobacco or nicotine-containing non-tobacco product. The invention in one aspect relates to an oral smokeless tobacco or nicotine-containing non-tobacco product comprising a composition enclosed by a wrapping material, wherein the wrapping material comprises a magnesium carbonate. In another aspect, the invention relates to an oral smokeless tobacco or nicotine-containing non-tobacco product comprising a composition enclosed by a wrapping material, and comprising a liner adjacent to the wrapping material, wherein the liner comprises magnesium carbonate in an amount of 0.1 to 10%, by total weight of the oral smokeless product.

An opening (20) in the housing (12) exposes an outer end (46) of the continuous band outside the housing (12), and allows outfeed of the continuous band from the housing (12) and separation of a desired length of the outer end (46) by the user. A reclosable closure means (26) is provided for alternatively covering and exposing the outer end (46) of the continuous band outside the housing (12).

To further improve the packaging of smokeless tobacco doses so that the tobacco product at each single instance can be made more easily accessible to the user in a wider range of desired amounts the package comprises a plurality of product portions (18) arranged in a spaced relation one after another. The portions (18) are sealed in pockets (20) between layers of flexible sheet permeable to tobacco ingredients. The layers of sheet are bonded together face to face outside said portions (18) and form a band (12) joining the portions (18) together. The band (12) is also separable between adjacent portions (18) selectable by the user.

Also provided is a method for manufacturing said tobacco product comprising the following step: pressing at least one load layer with a construction layer in a press apparatus.
