  • Patent number: 8374607
Abstract: The technology involves data processing during intra-site handover procedures. At least two directional antennas of a base station receive user data carrying signals originating from a mobile units positioned in an intra-site handover area defined by the overlapping radio coverage of the antennas. The directional antennas performs an initial data signal detection of the received data signals resulting in detected user data, which typically results in a loss of radio performance of the antenna. The detected user data from the directional antennas is then jointly processed to generate processed user data. The performance loss is compensated by providing differential antenna gain of the directional antennas within the handover area. As a result, a similar radio coverage in this area as prior art solutions is obtained but with a less complex antenna-related design.

  • Publication number: 20120140801
Abstract: The invention relates to the technical field of radio communications, and in particular to an antenna device for a radio base station, and a method for precoding data in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. Embodiments of the invention disclose a secondary precoder 24 in series with a multiple-input multiple-output precoder 22. The secondary precoder 24 has a plurality of inputs 34, 36 and a plurality of outputs 38, 40. The second plurality of inputs being in communication with each plurality of outputs 38, 40 such that one or more signals input to a respective one or more of the second plurality of inputs 34, 36 provides a substantially equal power of signals at the second plurality of outputs 38, 40.

  • Publication number: 20120108186
Abstract: A transmitter for transmitting data in a cellular radio system is provided. The transmitter transmits data to User Equipment(s) using multiple transmitting antennas, using at least two polarization formers generating orthogonal polarizations of an input data stream. The transmitter further comprises a transmitter diversity arrangement adapted to receive input data to be transmitted to the User Equipment(s), where the transmitter diversity arrangement is connected to the input terminals of the polarization formers. By combining transmitter diversity with polarization former weights, orthogonality between multiple, in particular 4, transmitting antennas can be obtained.

  • Publication number: 20120033755
Abstract: In a transmitter using at least two transmitting antennas a STTD transmitter is used in combination with a common pre-coding transmitter for power amplifying power balancing. A selector can be provided for selecting data/channels transmitted using STTD and common pre-coding such that for one channel type, STTD or common pre-coding is used whereas the combination of both STTD and common pre-coding is used for a different data/channel type. By selectively using both STTD and common pre-coding for power amplifier power balancing, an improved power balancing is achieved. At the same time, the STTD gain is obtained in the relevant cases but the STTD loss in other cases is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20110228740
Abstract: A radio base station (1) for use in a wireless communication system comprises—a scheduling unit (9) arranged to schedule at least one user terminal to which to transmit in each subframe and—a power allocation unit (11) arranged to allocate a first amount of power to be used for the at least one user terminal in each subframe, a transmitter (5) arranged to transmit a transport block in a subframe to a number of user terminals (3) in the wireless” communication system in accordance with said scheduling and power allocation. The radio base station further comprises—a correction unit (15) arranged to determine, after scheduling has been performed for a chosen subframe, if there is excess power in the chosen subframe that has not been allocated to any user terminal and if so allocate at least a first part of the excess power to at least one user terminal scheduled in the subframe. The excess power is used when transmitting in the subframe.

  • Publication number: 20110141999
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for allocating communication bandwidth between a first terminal of a plurality of terminals and a network device. Wireless communication between the first plurality of terminals and the network device is carried out using a plurality of carrier channels. The communication defines a first bandwidth. The method comprises the steps of receiving the request for change of bandwidth from the first terminal, evaluating current load on carrier channels in use by the first terminal, evaluating priority between all terminals using the carrier channels currently in use by the first terminal, evaluating capacity of all carrier channels available to the first terminal, and allocating a second bandwidth between the network device and the first terminal by allocating a new number of carrier channels. The present invention further relates to a network device and a device for communication.

  • Patent number: 6650910
Abstract: The present invention relates to radio systems and, more particularly, to a method and apparatus for receiving radio signals with the aid of beams generated by antenna assemblies. For each of the beams in a first of the antenna assemblies there is a beam in the second of the antenna assemblies that covers the same space area. Signals received by the second are delayed relative to signals received by the first of the antenna assemblies. Then signals from the first antenna assembly are combined with signals from the second of the antenna assemblies. The combined signals derive from beams covering the same space area. Each combined signal is then radio received in a joint radio receiver. A DOA-estimation can be calculated on the basis of radio received signals derived from all beams.

  • Patent number: 6643275
Abstract: An uplink common physical channel (random access channel) frame structure with a separate preamble and data portion. The preamble is used by a base station to detect that a mobile station is attempting a random access request. The data portion of the channel includes user data, and pilot symbols that provide energy for channel estimation during reception of the data portion. A guard interval is preferably inserted between the preamble and data portion of the frame, which enables data detection to occur during an idle period. As such, the frame structures for both the common physical (random access) uplink channel and dedicated physical (traffic) uplink channel are compatible.

  • Patent number: 6542484
Abstract: Multiple code sets are introduced in the downlink of a CDMA system to allow for more connections in each cell. The codes are then allocated to different users taking into account the interference therebetween. The interference depends on the antenna gains, transmission powers used and cross-correlations between codes. By estimating these parameters the interference can be minimized in the code allocation process. Since the allocation of codes and code sets to geographical areas within a cell may change over time, code handoff is supported.

  • Patent number: 6339646
Abstract: The downlink channelization code limitation problem encountered in spread spectrum or CDMA cellular systems is resolved by using codes from a different, non-orthogonal code set when operating in the slotted mode. The non-orthogonal code sets can be constructed by using the same channelization code tree, but applying a different scrambling code.

  • Patent number: 6222875
Abstract: Variable rate data transmissions are accommodated having BRI transmitted in the same frame as the data itself. When Walsh code spreading is employed, the despreading process can be split into two separate despreading operations, with buffering between the two operations. Buffering is made of the intermediate symbols between the despreading stages, and can be made at the maximum user data rate instead of the much higher chip rate. In this way, the size of the buffer in the receiver can be significantly reduced.
