  • Patent number: 9451475
Abstract: A NodeB (105) for an HSPA enabled WCDMA network (100), arranged (11, 12, 13) to transmit beam forming instructions to a User Equipment, a UE (110), which is arranged for beam forming. The beam forming instructions comprise information identifying a code book with one or more code words, and the NodeB is also arranged to transmit code words from said code book to the UE at a certain rate. The NodeB is further arranged to determine said rate based on dynamically varying information available in the WCDMA network, and to receive said information on the code book from an RNC upon configuration of the UE or to choose code book based on said dynamically varying information available in the WCDMA network.

  • Patent number: 8861436
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reducing interference between users in a mobile communications network (1) in which uplink transmissions from user equipment, UE (3), to a radio base station, RBS (5A, 5B), can be performed on at least two different carriers (C1, C2). The UE (3) support dynamic switching between CDM and TDM transmission mode and the RBS (5A, 5B) is arranged to dynamically set the mode of transmission for the UE (3). The method comprises the steps of: —identifying (S200) at least a first UE as a high data rate, HDR, UE currently requiring high data transmission rate; dedicating (S201) at least one of said at least two carriers (C1, C2) to said HDR UE for at least a first period of time (T), said at least one carrier (C1, C2) hereinafter being named clean carrier, and—allocating (S202) said at least first HDR UE to said clean carrier (C1, C2) during said at least first period of time (T).

  • Publication number: 20130150049
Abstract: The technology involves data processing during intra-site handover procedures. At least two directional antennas of a base station receive data carrying signals originating from a mobile units positioned in an intra-site handover area defined by the overlapping radio coverage of the antennas. The directional antennas performs an initial data signal detection of the received data signals resulting in detected data, which typically results in a loss of radio performance of the antenna. The detected data from the directional antennas is then processed to generate processed data. The performance loss is compensated by providing differential antenna gain of the directional antennas within the handover area.

  • Publication number: 20100157829
Abstract: The invention discloses a method (200) for a wireless communications network (100) with a number of user terminals (130) and a first node (120) to which user terminals report a quality indicator value indicating the quality communication between the user terminal and the first node. The method (200) comprises using the reported quality indicator value from a user terminal to arrive at an adjusted quality indicator value for the user terminal, and also comprises obtaining the adjusted quality indicator value by comparing a reported quality indicator value with an expected quality indicator value, and an offset value is used to adjust the reported quality indicator value. The offset value is obtained as a result of the comparison, and the method (200) also comprises the step (250) of using the quality indicator value for adjusting the communication between the first node and the terminal.

At least two directional antennas of a base station receive user data carrying signals originating from a mobile units positioned in an intra-site handover area defined by the overlapping radio coverage of the antennas. The directional antennas performs an initial data signal detection of the received data signals resulting in detected user data, which typically results in a loss of radio performance of the antenna. The detected user data from the directional antennas is then jointly processed to generate processed user data. The performance loss is compensated by providing differential antenna gain of the directional antennas within the handover area. As a result, a similar radio coverage in this area as prior art solutions is obtained but with a less complex antenna-related design.

  • Publication number: 20080218414
Abstract: The invention relates to adjusting the shape of the antenna beam (20) of a directional antenna (120) in a communications system (1). According to the invention, the antenna beam (20) is divided into at least a handover beam sector (24) and a main beam sector (22). The shape of the at least two beam sectors (22; 24) are then adjusted based on different requirements and objectives. The shape of handover beam sector (24) is adjusted based on the handover parameter settings of the communications system (1), e.g. by adjusting the angular interval of this handover beam sector (24) based on the parameter settings. Optionally, the shape of the main beam sector (22) is adjusted by maximizing the antenna gain of the directional antenna (120) within this beam sector (22).

  • Patent number: 7181218
Abstract: A dual mode mobile terminal (30) is capable of communicating (e.g., with a core network) either via a first radio access network (12) having a first type radio access technology (GSM) or a second radio access network (14) having a second type radio access technology (UTRAN). When conditions warrant, a network node prepares a radio access technology (RAT) handover message for transmission to the equipment unit (UE) in conjunction with handover of the mobile terminal (MT) from the first radio access network to the second radio access network, and an associated change of operation mode of the mobile terminal (MT) from the first mode to the second mode. In accordance with the present invention, a radio access technology handover message includes a first information element representative of a first parameter from which a value of a second parameter can be derived so that the second parameter need not be included as a separate information element in the radio access technology handover message.

  • Patent number: 6868075
Abstract: A system and corresponding method for utilizing Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) techniques in compressed modes. In certain embodiments, radio frames on an uplink data channel are formed and transmitted to include at least one transmission gap (TG) therein in a compressed mode. This may be achieved by reducing the spreading factor (e.g., by a factor of two). In combination with reducing the spreading factor, the TG may be tailored or adjusted to its desired length (TGL) by using bit repetition (or reduction of puncturing). This enables the TG length to be tailored to a desired length, without having to increase output power more than necessary. In other embodiments of this invention, frames on an uplink control channel are formed or formatted so as to repeat format indicator (e.g., TFCI) bits therein in compressed mode.

  • Patent number: 6157842
Abstract: A system and method for improving the accuracy of a location estimation measurement within a telecommunication system is disclosed. During a cessation of transmissions by a local base transceiver system in communication with the mobile station, the mobile station communicates with other, more remote base transceiver systems and trilateration and other distance measuring techniques are employed to calculate the position of the mobile station in relation to those remote base transceiver systems. In another embodiment of the present invention, the local base transceiver system is also used to calculate the position. In still another embodiment, during a cessation of transmissions by the mobile stations in communication with a local base transceiver system, the local base transceiver system is better able to use remote mobile stations for trilateration.

  • Patent number: 6108369
Abstract: Variable spreading factors and multi-code transmissions are flexibly accommodated by assigning spreading codes in accordance with the described techniques. Spreading codes are assigned so that the control channel is orthogonal to all physical channels in the composite spread spectrum signal. Power balance between in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) branches in the transmitter is also provided by assigning physical channels to appropriate branches and splitting physical channels, where necessary.
