    Abstract: To prevent differential deformation and damage, upon operation of large internal combustion engines, such as large Diesel engines, the cage structure is formed with a central valve seat and a lateral passage for inlet and exhaust gases to the cylinder of the internal combustion engine, and the wall opposite the lateral passage is formed with a diametrically interrupting slit extending at least in part transversely to the longitudinal axis of the cage (and hence of the valve), leaving a depending tongue to delimit the valve cage, the interrupted wall structure preventing unbalanced thermal and vibration stresses from interfering with the structural stability of the valve cage.
