  • Patent number: 5567032
Abstract: An illuminating device for a vehicle has at least one light generating unit, at least one light distributing unit, at least one light conducting element connecting the units with one another, the light distributing unit being provided with at least one lens element for projecting and distributing light exiting from an end of the light conducting element associated with light distributing element, the units and the element being arranged so that a relative arrangement between the end of the light element associated with the light distributing element and also the lens element is changeable in a substantially horizontal direction for changing a distribution of light exiting the light conducting elements, and an adjusting device provided for changing the arrangement and activated by steering of the vehicle so that an illumination provided by the light distributing unit is increased in an actual driving direction.

  • Patent number: 5499168
Abstract: A device for regulating a light width of headlights of motor vehicles comprises an adjusting device associated with one of the headlights, a transmitter which emits electromagnetic radiation to illuminate a region of a roadway located in front of the motor vehicle, an opto-electronic sensor which determines radiation emitted by the transmitter and reflected by the roadway and in dependence on the detected radiation produces signals, an evaluating device which processes the produced signals and controls the adjusting device for maintaining constant a light width of a beam emitted by the headlights.

  • Patent number: 5469340
Abstract: An illumination device for vehicles has at least two headlights arranged on a front side of a vehicle and radiating different light beams having at least an upper bright-dark limit so that a headlight arranged on a vehicle side facing away from an opposite traffic side radiates a horizontally dispersed light beam which has a substantially horizontal upper bright-dark limit and illuminates at least the opposite traffic side, while another headlight arranged on a vehicle side facing the opposite traffic side radiates a light beam which illuminates a traffic side and an edge region outwardly adjoining the traffic side and has an upper bright-dark limit with at least a portion which is higher than the bright-dark limit of the light beam radiated by the first-mentioned headlight.

  • Patent number: 4968146
Abstract: An optical depth measuring device for use with a drilling power tool for drilling a bore in a workpiece and comprising a radiation source for projecting an optical pattern onto a surface of the workpiece, a radiation receiver for receiving an image reflected from the surface of the workpiece, a conveying lens located in front of the radiation receiver for directing the reflected image and signal processing means for continuously determining the depth of the drilled bore in accordance with the image received by the radiation receiver.

  • Patent number: 4713707
Abstract: A contactless (flying) transducer for scanning a record or recording disc is mounted near the free end of a pivoted arm which is driven in rotation about its pivot by the tangential drive provided by a restrained nut on a threaded motor-driven spindle. A pin extending fron the nut slides without play in a lengthwise groove at the free end of the arm. Rapid operation of the electric motor makes it easy to shift from one part of the record to another and slow movement makes it easy to register precisely with a track. Still finer movement is possible electrically by shifting the transducer on the arm.

  • Patent number: 4304487
Abstract: To measure the distance to a selected object, the range finder transmits infrared light in a beam having a straight limiting edge on one side. The object reflects light back from the illuminated region and a lens receives part of the light and creates an image of the illuminated region including the straight limiting edge on a plane inclined at an angle to the optical axis of the lens. A detector, including a photoelectric transducer part of which is masked by a mask having a straight edge, is moved along the plane until the edge of the mask and the edge of the image are aligned as closely as possible. The position of the detector when this alignment takes place is indicative of the distance of the object from the range finder.

  • Patent number: 4217053
Abstract: A workpiece is passed through a beam of either continuous or pulsed light which is interrupted thereby. The light impinges on a phototransducer such as a phototransistor, which is connected to an evaluation circuit. The evaluation circuit evaluates instantaneous light values with respect to movement of the workpieces in the beam, that is, evaluates variations derived from the transducer which preferably are decoded with respect to threshold levels and the time between sequential level exceeding, or passing, the thresholds is sensed, for example by a counter, to provide an output representative of the occurrence of changes in the light values indicative, for example, of discontinuities in the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4060906
Abstract: A conical centering feeler is located in axial alignment with the central axis of one of the elements and has its pointed end directed towards the other. If the other element is a nut, for example, the point is directed towards the bore in the nut. If the other element is a bolt, the conical element is hollow and the hollow, wide rim is placed over the bolt. The conical element is held by a flexible deflection tube which is connected to sensors, for example strain gauges, located 90.degree. offset with respect to each other, which, upon bending of the tube, indicating misalignment of the elements, cause feed operation of a cross slide until the bending tube is straight, thus indicating alignment of the two elements. The bending tube holds the conical element in alignment with its point.
