  • Publication number: 20080187260
Abstract: The invention relates to a composite antifriction bearing material for producing antifriction bearing elements, in particular antifriction bearing bushes and antifriction bearing half liners for engine applications, comprising a steel carrier layer and a copper-based, in particular copper-tin-based or copper-zinc-based bearing metal layer applied on top, and comprising an aluminum-based running layer sputtered onto the bearing metal layer; to improve the running-in behavior, applied to the sputtered-on running layer is an additional running-in layer, which is either a zinc-phosphate layer 1-5 ?m thick formed on the surface of the running layer or a layer of tin, bismuth, silver or alloys thereof 1-5 ?m thick sputtered onto the running layer, but softer than the latter, or a polymer-based antifriction coating less than 10 ?m thick.

  • Publication number: 20080019626
Abstract: The invention relates to a connecting rod bearing shell or bush for combustion engines or a main bearing shell for mounting the crankshaft of combustion engines. Said bearing shell or bush is made of a composite plain bearing material comprising a metallic, especially steel support layer, a metallic sliding layer (2) that is applied thereto and is formed from a copper-zinc alloy containing 10 to 25 percent by weight of Zn and 1 to 8 percent by weight of Ni, and a sputtered-on overlay layer (4) which faces the sliding layer, is made of an aluminum-tin alloy, and is sputtered directly onto the sliding layer such that a thin nickel barrier layer (10) having a thickness of less that 1 ?m is formed.

  • Publication number: 20070031696
Abstract: The invention relates to a plain bearing composite material comprising a steel carrier layer, a carrier layer which is cast, sintered or cladded thereon, the carrier layer being made of bronze or brass, and a bearing coating on the carrier layer or on an intermediate layer, the bearing coating being made of a bearing coating material based on aluminium/tin/copper, to increase load-bearing capacity and resistance to wear of the plain bearing composite material. According to the invention, the composition of the plain bearing materials is AlSn(22-30)Cu(2.3-2.8), optionally, comprising upto 2 wt. % Ni, Si, Mn and impurity related elements up to, respectively, 0.5 wt. %, the total quantity thereof not amounting to more than 1 wt. %, and the hardness of the bearing coating being between 110-150 HV 0.002.
